EPC light on again, no wait it's off again.......

Wife has the car today - she calls me to say the EPC light is on.
I call Audi Assist and they're sending someone tonight to check it out. Now she calls and the light's off.
I wish it'd make its mind up!
What can cause the EPC light to come on and then go off of its own accord? I'd have thought that if the ECU logs and "event" then it would stay on until the fault codes are cleared??
Help!

Will be the manifold flaps sticking.
VCDS will confirm but that is the usual symptom.

+1
Could be any number of things but this is likely.
I wouldn't call audi assist based on the EPS light alone.
That simply is audi's own diagnostic saying 'something isn't quite what it should be'.
If the problem is bad enough the car will trip the generic mil light. This means problem should be looked at, possibly in limp home mode but again drive able.
Any serious problem would trip the flashing mil light (and most likely multiple misfires).
This is 'stop as soon as safe to do so'

Ist of all hello, I've been on here a while and not said Hello.
I've had this problem on mine. When the light was on it wouldnt rev beyond about 6750. Took it to Teesside Audi for this and other things and they ordered a Solenoid Valve V037 906 283 C @ £54.09 plus fitting @ £80.50 and it cured it.
Hope this helps.
Richard.

without plugging in the diagnostics you can't tell what it is... hundreds of things can trip the EPS light.

Thanks all.
It's stayed off. It's had the manifold flaps done a couple of weeks back under warranty when it came on before.
Italian tune up this weekend, I think

If it comes back and you can't beg/borrow/steal a
Vag Com unit then worth spending 20 quid in Halfords to get a generic odb2 reader. Whilst not as detailed it will at least give you the code which would help point the finger at the underlying fault.
Worth checking that the flaps are operating by revving the car up over 4k if you haven't already.

Cheers bud.
Yeah I'll organise a fault code reader this weekend.
Missus has been tootling round in it for a few days. I reckon it just needs a good italian tune up.
