Aberdeen Audi

Post by Les » Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:11 am

Guys I know there are a few Aberdeen loons on here so looking for some servicing information.
Do Aberdeen let you buy the oil and spark plugs for the service or are they sticklers for it all being from within the dealer?
My car will soon be going in for the 6yr service and whilst it's done less than 25k I'm sure it's going to be a biggish bill.
I've noticed that the coolant level is sitting just below minimum, should I top this up myself as the dealer I'm sure will be expensive to do it? If so where is the best place to get the G12 coolant from, is it generally available?
I bought the car privately but it has always been maintained by Aberdeen (originally supplied by them as well) apart from one service at Elgin Audi.
Thanks guys.
Les.

I've yet to take mine to Aberdeen audi, one thing I know is if they do take your oil it must be sealed, as in you will have to give them 3 x 4litre tubs, not 2 + 1 opened to get 10 litres, hope that makes sense :biggrin2:

I supplied my own oil to Aberdeen Audi for the first two services without any problems and i've always found their attitude very amiable.

however...

i now do my own oil change because they over filled both times and the oil was still black on the dipstick, so clearly not getting all of the oil out of the sump. I did my own oil change last time and guess what, 3000miles later and my oil is still straw coloured.

Keep an eye on that coolant level, the aux rads are prone to leak, i lived with a drip leak for several months before getting round to replacing them both.

Probably easier to get the coolant fluid from Audi, i couldn't find it locally anywhere else.

Rico / Guffy
Thanks guys, appreciate the information.
The thing with the oil change concerns me a little, don't like the idea of them leaving some of the old oil in there  I would really prefer for them to do the service because they sold the car new and it has been serviced / repaired by them pretty much ever since. Might give them a call and ask about supplying the oil and plugs for the service and see what they say :?:
I've used the Volks Centre before, to change the front discs and pads on my first RS4 and they were really good but think I would prefer the old Audi stamp in the book :audibash:

Costco is cheapest for oil, and Aberdeen Audi is where I got my coolant - I think was something like £12 for a bottle of G13 concentrate. Haven't ever had an issue with me supplying parts or fluid for any work (they won't guarantee parts they don't supply, obviously). I'm thinking I might get them to fit my brakes when I replace them so they can do, and hopefully stamp/certify, the proper bedding-in thing.

Thanks Martay,
I checked in Costco but they only have 5w 40 not 5w 30. Am I missing something? They have both Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge in that spec but not in the correct viscosity.
Is 5w 40 ok to use as well?
Sounds like they will happily use my oil and plugs then. I will only be buying the right stuff anyway but it should still save a few quid over their margin.

Check if they meet the required VAG spec, if the spec isn't printed on the containers then it's not suitable.

I agree with the comment re the colour of the oil. Looking round my car immediately after the service last month, I checked the oil level and actually went back in to check if they had changed it, as it was well black on the dipstick. Level was ok though.

Very professional and courteous service, if a tad expensive.

doublea what did they say about the colour of the oil? Is this just a small amount that gets trapped where the dipstick sits in the sump?
Did you supply your own oil, etc?
I'll check the spec of the oil in costco but I'm sure it's not right. Think it's 504 not 507, not sure need to look at the numbers again :?

Might just be out of stock at the moment, they definitely did 5W30 Castrol EDGE because I bought 3 of them in November.

Martay having read up on it a little it would seem that spec 504 00 or 507 00 is suitable and the 5W40 is 504 00 I think. Next time I'm in I will ask Costco if they have any 5W30.
Do you know if aberdeen use Castrol Edge when they do the oil or are they using Mobil 1, I ask because the top up bottle under the boot is Mobil 1.
Anyone else able to help with this? I will definitley not be putting anything but the best oil in the car.

I bought the spark plugs from Audi and fitted them myself. You'll need a torque wrench. Think I saved £90 doing that. I normally take my own oil to them but last time they said they can do. "Deal" with oil. Not had an issue with Audi Aberdeen.

Ima thanks for that, I'll need to call them and see what they can or will do for me. Hopefully as it's "their" car so to speak they will be happy to cut me some slack. Still expecting a big bill though :audibash:
Anyone care to share what they paid for the 6yr service????? :drink:
