Bring on the FON's - Newbie alert!

Post by jaysrs4 » Mon Mar 04, 2013 9:35 pm

Evening guys, well I've been lurking for some months now and contemplating if to turbo my MKV Golf R32 or sell up and buy a real car!

I've admired the mighty RS brand ever since I bought my R32 from nearly new and coveted every one I've seen being driven on the road.

Well after 3 months of someone hassling me to sell up (and offering me rediculious money for my R32), I decided that I'd never get the opportunity again, so my mission began to find as clean an RS4 as I possibly could for my budget.

I have to say i'm a tad of a perfectionist (some would say I clean more than I drive :-s ) and I had to accept I'd never find one that was as perfect as I wanted for my budget, however I love a good project and I'm going to really enjoy getting to know my new steed and meeting some like minded enthusiasts.

So, as the good book says bring on the FON's and rule 1, here's a very quick pic I took before I picked her up.

I'll deffo post some decent pics up of it when I've corrected the paint and fully detailed it as she's far from where I want her.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Regards James.

FON
Black with black optics always looks cool. Exactly how my first one was
My second one is silver with "silver optics".......... ok I made that up but that's how I see it, I still need to get pictures up........... sorry
You'll enjoy the RS in a different way to the R32, I had a R32 a few years back, marvelous cars but the RS4 is in a whole different league as I'm sure you've already worked out :jump_clap:
It's an Audi RS4 V8............. what else do you need to know!

Lovely looking car fella, phantom black is deffo the way to go but you will be cleaning it weekly [like me!] - I much prefer the silver wheels - I've titanium on my avant and it's the only thing I really don't like on the car - but hey - it's a personal choice - Welcome along - very helpful bunch on here [I've only been around since the begining of Dec]

PS : FON!

Thanks for the welcome fellas.

I'm based in Leeds, there seemed to be a fair few R32 owners based up here, quite happy to travel to meet some new faces but it would be great to hook up with some local folk!

As for mods, I test drove one with a Milltek and it sounded like death! So I'd love to get one bolted on when my funds recover.

However I'd love to give it a de-carbon as it must need one. Saying that I gave it my first real boot full last night and Jesus doesn't it go?!! That surge at 5k-ish is immence! - then the valves open up in yhe exhaust, the sound!!! and it pulls in every gear! Beautiful, just beautiful!

I think the first thing will be spacers and some springs but going to stay away from coilovers for the time being, my R32 was decked and truth be told, it was crashy and rubbed a fair bit - but it did look good :-p

The rims will also be getting refurb'd at some point, although they aren't rashed, I can tell there's been some repairing going on. I just want to turn it in to a real minter then see where it takes me.

So, anyone else live near Leeds (I am a southerner but been in Leeds for some 9 years now running my own business, so please don't hold it against me!!) ;-p

Before you commit to spending your cold hard cash on a Milly - take a look at the other options [AWE/JH Motorsport/Magnaflow/EBWerks/Capristo ETC] as well. I did lots of research and reading before deciding [and I've still not ordered mine] - There are plenty of options depending on what you are looking for IE [extra oomphf / or noise AND oompf or just noise!]

There are plenty of threads on exhaust choice - go take a rummage around - a good topic to start is http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... aust+noise

Also worth checking the standard exhaust flaps work. I thought my car sounded great and realised the other day while cleaning it and the engine was off the flaps were closed. Managed to get them working but were quite sticky so removed the vacuum lines, plugged them and made sure the flaps were open.

Now it really does sound great but more importantly it sounds great all the time and not when in certain gears or at certain revs.

Thanks for the info fellas, really appreciate it.

Had some RS4 logo'd mats turn up today, complimented with some nice rubber overmats.

Some may wonder why the hell people do that, but I personally can't stand grubby, filthy or soaking mats and a quick shake off or wipe down of some rubber ones keeps things in shape - plus mats wear pretty badly at the heel, so extra rubber protection (ooooerrr) always helps!!!

Nothing wrong with that, I have rubber mats in just now and will put the carpet mats in probably at the end of April or start of May. Rubber ones can take all the winter filth and salt and grit whilst the carpet mats get less wear, think it's worth it personally.
