Is this worth a look?

Hi guys

There's an '07 Misano Red B7 on Autotrader at the moment for 24.5k that I'm tempted to take a look at. It looks to be fairly well specc'd but as I'm an Audi virgin (see 'Be gentle with me' in the Welcome Area) I'd welcome any advice and thoughts as to whether its worth a trip.

Presumably it would be better if the DRC had been changed under recall? How critical is it?

If it's known to anyone or you can offer some advice on spec/price etc please post your thoughts or PM me.

Thanks

Hi Pardner,

IMO this car needs to be no more than 22k, yes it's an Avant but it's not the most popular colour. Car looks good in the pics and the new tyres are worth a few hundred quid. but in this market it look's expensive to me. just my opinion.

I recently purchased a misano red rs4 avant on a 56 plate privately. Very similar spec to the one for sale with sat nav, Bose, 6 disc multi change, xenon adaptive lights, auto lights, dimming rear view mirror also etc, with new Michelin pilot sport 3 all round, DRC all replaced by Audi weeks previously, new disks and pads on rears and good on the front, in immaculate condiion, with full Audi history, milage slightly higher at 61000. Also has the bucket seats, sports mode flat bottom steering wheel. I paid £19,950 and car is superb. The mileage on the red avant on autotrader is at 43000 so I wouldn't want to pay more than 22k for it. Love the colour though. It is stunning when all polished. Good luck

Thanks for thie comments. It did see a bit high to me at 24.5k but as I'm new to RS4s I wasn't sure.

I know if I go and look my heart will rule my head, so I'll be patient and keep looking!

That's a steal mate, well done on that.

I think the price is fair on this car, with the miles on it, avants alway get a pit more than a saloon.

hi
bought 2 months ago from a garage: misano red avant with all the 'options' as mentioned in the ad, which are mainly standard, 49000mls black optics, rs6 20" wheels and milltek new front brake pads for 22990.
If you could get that price down a bit i would say you will have a very nice car for decent price and in the best colour!!

Sorry, but both those statements are simply not true. Jason, with all due respect the fact you've not sold yours for the price you want should indicate that that you are miles off with your estimations. Like it or not, an avg mile and good condition FASH 56/07 plate car is currently worth circa £17-18k (absolute max) in the trade, so for a private sale where it actually sells it has to be priced circa £20k, Indi dealer circa £22k, Audi dealer £24-25k.

Look at what cars have actually sold recently, and you'll see that Autotrader has had the same 26 RS4 Avant examples for sale for 2 months,it's only the realistically priced cars that have dropped off the radar and sold.

I agree with Jason and Birdiemachine. The price is not far off what it is worth with a bit of negotiation. To think you could get it for thousands less is just wishful thinking. Like any specialist car, getting the best price can take patience. No point in selling at a price to attract tyre kickers and dreamers who can't afford it!

That's not the point I'm making. The point I'm trying to make is if the screen price is not reflective of the current market value, it won't sell. Just because a car may have a high screen price, it doesn't make it 'worth' that amount. The price differences we are talking about here are not a few hundred quid, it's literally thousands. Anybody who's seriously looking to buy these cars will do full research before buying. Research will include the market values.

A car's value is based on CAP/industry book values, nothing more, nothing less. A 56/07 Avant with avg mileage car is not 'worth' £25k, not by a long way.

Thanks for the excellent information. Looking myself and had a max budget of £25k but by the sounds of it there are some great cars around the £20k mark that I will be looking at.

I think the truth lies somewhere between the two extremes of (a) the buyer hoping to get a good car on the cheap and (b) the seller hoping to get the full asking price. Book values are a guide and no more than that, and are based on average mileage and average condition. A low mileage example (such as that red one) in first class condition will always fetch more. 20K is therefore completely unrealistic for it.

Kevin,

I was surprised that you didn't go for KEV_NIX's Black Cherry Avant which seemed to tick all the boxes?
Not everyone's car is available on a "fire sale" basis.

Not forgetting the fact that CAP values are known throughout the trade as being too low/pessimistic.

A trader would buy-in stock using the CAP value and retail it using above Glasses Guide (...was Parker's dagnabbit...!!!) top book price.

Unfair? - most definitely. But, certainly true in the South West.
