Yeh was a pants start....lol
Do you roll on from say 2k and start timing at 3k or hold it at 3k then floor it and start timing?

Put in 3rd gear at very low revs (but dont stall) floor it at 2k- when you hit 3k (or just before due to reaction time) hit the timer then stop it at 8k

After reading a thread in this section of the forum, I felt the need to go out and do this test on my own car!

Just for reference, here are my results and conditions;

Car: Stock B7 RS4, Sport button pressed and ESP off.
Mileage: 67k with no evidence of carbon clean ever having been done.
Fuel: 1/2 tank of 99RON pump fuel
Driver: 121kg
Temp on gauge: 20 degrees Celsius
Height above sea level: 8m

Recorded on cars own lap timer.

Time 1: 8.8s
Time 2: 8.4s
Time 3. 8.9s
Time 4: 8.4s
Time 5: 8.3s

Average time: 8.56s - Even if i was a bit sharp with timer, it still keeps it within the 'acceptable' times so all in i'm pretty happy with that.

My 8.5 seconds in November 2012 is now high nines and touching ten.

The car doesn't seem to rev as freely/wildly and it's most noticeable after the 5.5k surge which is still present. Very occassionally when doing the runs there is a subtle blip in progression through the revs - somewhere above 6k. Having read earlier threads on vacuum leaks and flaps I'm none the wiser as to the cause.

My car is standard but with a K&N filter (provided Audi didn't swap it out when it was serviced last week). It got a new clutch and new fluids all round last week. None of this is to blame though - I noticed the rev blip a few months back, hoped (naively) that it was the clutch :bash: :)

Any ideas what I should do?

Stop taking it to Audi and find a decent local indie that knows what they are doing. It will also be cheaper plus your air filter will be safe!

Sounds like a classic vacuum leak but without a VCDS cable to log error codes and perform function tests it is hard to be sure.

Yes I would guess either vac leak, or it is 45 C and high altitude where you are currently testing

It's a hard habit to break :D

The service I get at Tyneside Audi is superb. But you're right, and with Glenn and Revolution down the road from me it's silly not to, particularly for stuff like this.

:bash: Good point: yes, same place (virtually sea level), same time of day, just different season. It was only 6 degrees hotter.

I'll chat to Revolution. I'm getting a VCDS today to play with too while I'm on my Ireland road trip. Cheers fellas :beerchug:

6 degrees is very little. Maybe 1.5%.

Something else is definitely wrong.

Thanks again for you input. Fingers crossed I'll get the extra power back before Spa in September.

8.6 for altitude I think is decent

Fresh carbon clean yesterday
Intake separators removed
K&N filter
Custom decat down pipes and X pipe
