Which is why I don't hide the keys. If they're prepared to break into the house to steal the car keys in the first place I don't think they'll just leave again quietly if they can't find them.

Better to lose the car than have them wake you and your family to politely ask where you've hidden the keys.
We got broken into a few months ago - a local drug addict after cash - and when we had the visit from the Crime Prevention Officer he advised us to hide the keys even though he saw the RS4 and knew of the usual method of taking them.
The previous owners of our house were broken into - dodgy cleaning firm who let themselves in while they were on holiday - so I asked the local crime prevention officer for his security recommendations and he advised the exact opposite of what your bloke said. He said the keys shouldn't be visible through any doors or windows but they should be left somewhere that's easy to find if someone does break in, for the reason I mentioned above.

So the Police don't have a clue and give conflicting advice depending on where you live :bash:

In truth you are damned if you do and damned if you don't, some nutter buzzing on his preferred smack could take your keys and give you a hiding for the extra adrenalin. I have always and would always strike first and if need be lie through your teeth to the coppers. I have heard of a burglar being beaten half to death and dumped further down the road near us and nothing further was said by either the cops or the guttersnipes family. the people who get into bother are the people who are too honest.

'It was dark officer and he said he had a knife, I FELT THREATENED''

Walk out of any court in the land with that last line :biggrin3:
