Update: I had the silver package fitted last week. Very pleased with the installation and now comfortable leaving the car on the street again. The warn away sensor needs some work to get the right level of sensitivity but overall its a great job. I tested the alarm a few times and its very loud - no way the little b******s could try and steal seats/car unnoticed now!

I have invested in a strong bike lock to secure the seats together and have some Loctite Red 271 ready to properly secure the seat bolts.

The above deal has now expired but the guys at Securemycar will give you £20 off by mentioning my username until end of 2017. Not a huge discount but better than nothing.

Cheers for all the help

Rob

Did you go with remote start? Also how long it took them to fit?

Don't forget once you put the loctite in to superglue an 8mm ball bearing into the top of the bolt.

Couple of quid on eBay for 100 :)

What happens when the thief breaks in and realises the seats have been loctited (?) In and a ball bearing glued in the bolt? Does he just shrug his shoulders and walk away empty handed? I can't help but think he's going to react in a pretty nasty way, be careful guys.

Why should they be able to take them so easily?

This could be the difference of a car being written off or not. Yes they may damage the seats / car in retaliation but the repair cost maybe a lot less than a new set of front seats hence maybe making the car not a write off.

Why give these scumbags a nice easy ride.

I think this turning into a very odd conversation.

Glueing bolts? Ball bearings? Pad locks on the seats?

What the f*ck are you going to do when you want to take the seats out.

I tell you where I am with this. I don’t want some moron breaking the window and then stealing my seats. But to prevent that I don’t glue and padlock the seats, I make sure when the Moron looks at my car, he is able to decide if breaking in and stealing the seats is worth it, would he get away un-detected?

Remember, on the standard alarm these cars are vulnerable. Not from theft necessarily but Audi didn’t anticipate people breaking in and stealing the seats. They have no shock sensor so you can break the windows without the alarm activating. The cabin sensors can simply be unplugged to avoid activating the alarm and they are within reaching distance from the window and easy to pull down. Even if the alarm does go off it’s so quiet and un-intrusive you wouldn’t hear it though some decent double glazing anyway.

The blue flashing light from the aftermarket alarm will make them think twice, couple that with the LED flashing Viper Sticker in the window tells them it has a non standard alarm fitted. Add proximity sensors so as they are peering through the window it warns them off. They are likely to shock test the car at this point by thumping the a pillar or door to see if the alarm activates. At that point the alarm sound and they will run off.

This is my view in summary:

I don’t want them breaking in my car at all, let alone breaking in to find ball bearings, glue and padlocks.

The seats from our cars are being stolen for two reasons, they sell on easily for good money and they are dead easy to steal.

You can’t change the former but by changing the latter your seats will be safe.

Make it obvious you have a non standard alarm. This is not the time to be subtle. Save that for Stickers and carbon.

Thieves don’t like getting caught so if there is any doubt in their mind they won’t risk it.

Yours isn’t the only RS4 in the UK, if they a worried about breaking into yours and getting away with it, they can go and find another one.

Perhaps think about CCTV where it is parked. But again let them know you have it, remember you are trying to prevent them breaking into it not catch them whilst they do it.

I'm not suggesting you should give them an easy ride, I'm saying these criminals are the lowest of the low and if you do what's been suggested they will not react kindly, to the point i wouldn't be surprised if they break in your house, terrorise your family and steal the keys and take the car and strip it down somehwere else. As above, do everything you can to deter a thief in the first place, decent aftermarket alarm, cctv, motion security lighting etc so they just move on to the next, yes they might just break in your house anyway with balaclavas on but my personal opinion is they'll just move on to the next rs4.

"Glueing bolts? Ball bearings? Pad locks on the seats?

I used Red Loctite and Sikkaflex - in hindsight I might remove the sikkaflex and just let them wreck their tools/the bolt heads in the event of an attempted theft.

I will be able to get them out with heat as I know what is holding them in.

I also have never removed the seats in any of my cars so not so worried anyway.

My hope was in tyhe event of a break in the upgraded alarm will be sounding and the seats will not be a quick job and so they move on. Yes they could damage the car but why add criminal damage to the list as well as adding time to get caught ?
