KD,

I think you have the option to refuse the first two offers if you were to take the full payment but must accept the third, so you may be able to haggle on the salvage price to worth a try!

As far as 'gooing' the bolts up that is a very good idea but silicone would remove relatively easily there is a product 3M make 'Sikaflex' or another brand is Tiger seal this is what vehicle manufacturers use to bond the bracing underneath car bonnets plus other permanent bonds, that stuff certainly wouldn't be removable quickly (and in the dark!)

Hope you get some sort of favourable result from your insurers :)

To be honest, different security bolts using an odd fittin would do the trick.
They are going to be assuming i's a standard hex bolt.

My only concern about making the seats more secure is the damage the thieves may do out of spite like taking a Stanley knife to all the seats.

My first car got broken into and the stereo equipment stolen but because the thieves couldnt get the doors speakers out they repeatedly stabbed them with a screwdriver. This made annoyed me the most.

I'm looking to have a small weld put onto the seat bolts to hold them in place, a garage could remove. Sikaflex is also a great idea. I also olive in SW London. Had the glass in a wing mirror stolen which was odd and very annoying.

I fitted a really basic switch that disengages the clutch pedal switch and stops the car from starting, gives a little peace of mind if someone ever got the keys, though there is always the worry of them coming back to ask more questions.

Err... just for shits and giggles... try starting the car with your magic switch off and just hold the starter button down...

Are you implying that if you hold the button down without pressing the cluth it will still start? Or are you just asking him to check it actually works?
I just went out to try it; car won't start without pressing the clutch even if you keep the button pressed, no matter how long you press it, but I'm guessing you knew that already. I thought I knew that too until I read your last post!

Engine won't start with or without clutch dipped when switch engaged.

That's odd...
To be honest I hadn't tried it but given that when the clutch switch starts to fail you can start the car by holding the starter button I was expecting something similar.

Aha, just a theory but I think that is because holding the button down means that when the intermittently failing clutch switch closes, the engine fires up. If you press the button then let go, then press the clutch it won't start (which is what is effectively happening with an intemrittant swtch), so holding the button down has it primed so as soon as the clutch switch does work it will automatically fire up the engine.

Ah I guess that makes sense.
I was wondering something similar but couldn't see how it would work.
Certainly a lot easier than wiring directly into the starter switch.

Ok so I am able to buy the car back. I purchased the car at the upper end 7 months ago (24k) 2nd owner, 2006 Avant, 49k on the clock and the spec I wanted. I was contemplating just starting again but I know this car, it has Stage II, the insurance wouldn't go a penny over 18k as a payback. The salvage company were keen to take hold of it knowing it only had the seats removed...

So anyway, I purchased the comfort seats on ebay with the rear heated seats and will have that put in. My friend is doing the work and will have it MOT'd there. I will also have an autolign inspection to remove the condition alert report to condition inspected (http://www.autoligninspections.co.uk/index.html) and will once all fixed get a letter from Audi to show what damage was caused by the theft and what was fixed. Is there anything else that would make a CAT D much less desirable? I know it will put some people off whenever I sell. I have taken lots of pictures of the before and asked my friend to document the work he is doing, but is there anything people suggest I do before or during the work.. rather than me thinking after its all done "oh I should have done this or that" There were quite a few scratches they made to the drivers side so will have the car resprayed.

I very much doubt I would sell the car for a while but just want it back to as good as it was. As Mike suggested I will defo get that security film, even though its comfort seats. If I ever come to sell I will give the option maybe to get the buckets but for me I do not want to go through this again so no more buckets for me without having a garage. Thank you to everyones suggestions and advice... the games are only just starting so may be asking for more help soon enough :-)

glad you can get it back and hope you can get it back to how you had it or want it. i,d imagine the salvage company were keen to keep hold as there could of been big money in it for someone. good luck and keep us posted!

kd, glad to hear it's getting sorted. I've got all mine documented for when I want to sell it. Anyone with half a brain will be able to see it's not been crashed so you should be OK.

yep I cant wait to get it back and slowly bring it back to what it was. Cherub72 could you let me know the trimmer you mentioned who worked on the pillar cloth of your interior?

I am hoping to get as much documented as possible so should the time come to sell it will go to someone who appreciates all the modifications and know that nothing else was done in the theft to scare people off, but yes you are correct most people will be able to see this. Right now I can not wait to get in the car and drive it :-)
