Can you call the honeymoon/wedding off in time?Markmyatt7 wrote:Gutted - Simon emailed me to say come along to use my RS4 as I live 2 minutes away from where they will be filming.
Unfortunately I thought I would be flying back from honeymoon on 29 Aug and so could make it. Looked at my flight details to find its an overnight flight and after adding time difference I actually land early doors on 30 Aug.

Re: Audi RS4 B7 for Fifth Gear TV shoot
it was in fact my lucky ticket which came up !
filming changed at last minute from Coventry to Castle Coombe which was good for me as a bit closer to home plus more of an interesting location to be based at!
We started at 8am at a workshop pretty much next to the track. The morning consisted of filming various small sections on the cars in the workshop and taking static shots etc
It was incredible to see just how much time and effort goes into making what may end up being just a 30 second clip out of the whole feature on the cars. Also made me chuckle as there was a track day on and the supercharged Mustang hammering past was causing a few issues for the sound guy – It almost seemed like it wanted in on the filming action ! (also made me want to get the RS4 supercharged too for the noise alone)
I won’t go into too much detail on the content of this section of the show nor will I put up lots of pictures as per the directors request however here is quite a cool one (I think) of the filming (about to be) in action for one of the indoor sections.
The workshop bits were just running over the specs of the cars and then talking about a few of the issues you might encounter with them (bear in mind this is never going to be an exhaustive guide on a small feature like this)
The RS4 seemed to be very well received by the other 2 car owners, the film crew and Vicky who all commented on how it looked like it had just come off the production line (I don’t agree as I know its not perfect but was nice to hear all the same especially after I got a bit carried away with the cleaning and even polished the back boxes the other weekend - oooh err)
Vicky was lovely – a really nice down to earth sort of person - in fact exactly how she appears on tv. She also took a bit of a shine to my little boy (8 months old) and he spent a lot of time getting lots of cuddles from her (not jealous at all
)
After the morning and early afternoon indoor filming had finished they did the road driving parts which consisted of a windscreen mounted camera to film the internal footage and three external suction mounted cameras and a rear mounted mike to capture (hopefully) the V8 in all its glory.
The first part of the road driving bit was her driving with the external (and I guess internal) cameras and the second bit was with the external cameras removed and her following a camera car
The car was out on the road for 2 x 30 minute sessions I guess and I asked Vicki what she thought of the car and how did it compare to when she drove one back in 2005 /2006 when first launched
She said something along the lines of “that car is absolutely spot one, still feels like a brand new car – all the money and time you’ve put into getting it like you want it has definitely paid off, I love it!” - Lets just hope she was as complimentary about it when the episode airs as my wife missed her saying all this unfortunately
All in all a really great day out, really pleased to have been “chosen” and I hope my car does / did the RS4 community proud when the episode airs which should be next spring I am told (but hopefully will be given some advanced warning once schedules are confirmed)

Genuine lol @ Tim
Clean Phantom RS4 there Will.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who periodically cleans the rear faces of my back boxes lol
Having followed my dad driving my S4 whilst I was driving my wee 205 GTi recently, it reminded me how f**king great these Audis look from behind (ooo err again!) as you get a great view of the exhaust

Nice little insight there Will to the filming day events, are you able to enlighten us with what competition was lined up against the RS4?
I'm really looking forward to watching the episode, even if it stars the wrong body style.

Re: Audi RS4 B7 for Fifth Gear TV shoot
all I will say is that there were 3 very different cars there and i'm pretty sure the RS4 was the favourite
but then I could be a bit biased lol !

Re: Audi RS4 B7 for Fifth Gear TV shoot
just thought i'd revive this thread as the new series has now started on Discovery..
I am told that "my" episode or rather my cars episode will be on Monday 17th March at whatever time 5th Gear is on (8:00 ?)
if Vicki is anything other than very complimentary about my car i'm selling it and buying a 997 Turbo
