Just got mine back from MRC, carbon clean was done, but i had a few other mods at the same time so hard to tell where most of the 50ps gains came from.

:beerchug:
B7 RS4 Avant 2007 Daytona Grey
Black Optics / Ti Pack
SS Suspension +
Sunroof
H&R Hubcentric Spacers
Milltek Res / Valved Cat Back
Stage 2 MRC Map
Cold Air Feed
Carbon Clean
Pre-Cats Gutted
447 PS

If in doubt.. Power out!!

mine is completely standard 45,000 miles and did 370bhp at MRC a month or so ago. i've only had it since december so can't vouch for previous usage

going to get the full carbon clean done at MRC in a couple of weeks. no mods,no remaps, standard exhaust so will be interesting to see what results I get

I have to say i'm also perfectly happy with the performance of the car (I've also got an RS3 to compare against) and when I tried out the "arthur test" I got pretty close to what it should be for a car making decent power output

Can you do the forum a big favor?

Do a before and after Arthur test with the in car stop watch running and your phone or camera filming the tachometer and stopwatch. Don't worry about starting stopping the clock. Just let it run and we will see the exact time by pausing the video and subtracting.

2000-8000 in 3rd (we will measure 3000-8000)
Full tank of gas (for consistency)
Same road
Same time of day and temp and conditions

One before the carbon clean and one immediately after.

Everyone would benefit and would really appreciate it.

Chaps, forgive my ignorance but what is an Arthur test?
Got my car back from MRC this morning post a full carbon clean including an inlet manifold clean, port and polish.
I was very pleased to hear from Doug that it was producing 425.4ps vs 398.3ps pre clean a 27.3PS improvement.
It's booked in on Weds at Revo for a revised map to take advantage of the carbon clean and with MRC for another dyno run on Friday.
Here are the pre and post plots and some of the photos that MRC took, the carbon build up was shocking !

P_G wrote:IIRC mine started at 396bhp at 80k miles, decoke took it to 412/413 bhp and then IM port / polish took it to 421bhp. Area under the power curve was larger too so most who do have it done notice better mid range pull, shgarper throttle response.

For £500-700 worth having done for nothing else other than maintenance.

~15 HP gain or 3% or so, that seems realistic for a car with 80k worth of deposits (actually this is withing the accuracy of most dynos, especially when a ramp/accel test is done versus a steady state measurement)

do you have the curves? I'm guessing all the gains were >6500 rpm or so
the 30-50 HP gains do not, unless of course another problem (vaccum) is corrected during the process

So you can't say for sure how much of the gain was due to the de-coke and how much due to the vac leak fix then?
look at the curve, big drop >5000
I'm betting 90% of the gain was due to the vaccum leak being repaired

[quote="Covkiller"]Chaps, forgive my ignorance but what is an Arthur test?

3000 - 8000 in 3rd gear timed

Is its 8 (is that right?) seconds it suggests relatively happy engine / good levels of performance

Something like that anyway :)

yepper
3k to 8k in 3rd gear
start at 2k and attain full throttle by 2500+, increase slowly, don't mash it
play with the timer first...find a long stretch and do 3 in a row, the timer will record all and give you the hi, lo and avg
mags get 36 to 96 (same as 3k to 8k in 3rd) using all gears in 8 sec, using thrid only takes 8.5 avg
amazing, such a tractable engine

Best to film it with the in board stopwatch just running. Then we can pause it at 3000 and again at 8000 to get a precise reading.

No need to try start or stop the clock right on time this way. Just ensure the film shows tacho + stopwatch

I see those are the revised tumble flaps, earlier ones never had the dimples in. FYI

Covkiller, out of interest why are you going for a Revo map?
Why didn't you have an MRC map whilst they were doing the work anyway?
