what elevation above sea level?
never cleaned the valves
i drive only on highways , deserted roads, or race tracks
elevation about 160 meters
that is a great time, US mags give times in 10 mph increments, and 36 to 96 mph (same range as 3k to 8k) is ~8 sec USING ALL THE GEARS!
that is how flexible/elastic this engine is

did this very interesting test in France this morning
my rs4 is full stock, temperature 12°C, alone in my RS4, 1/3 tank of 95 ron fuel (i know i shouldn't)
average time is 7,7 which seems to be a good result for my 2006 rs4 with 72000 KM
thanks for this nice forum

What was your time on the same section of road in the opposite direction?
Skeptical cat is skeptical:)

Agreed though....unless you are at 6000 feet below sea level, a stock RS4 is unlikely to do below 8.1, never mind 7.7

did it again here with the stop watch running so we can use it as a timer. I started the stop watch early and stopped it late so that we could have it precise by pausing the video on youtube (using the space bar) right when it hits 3000 and right when it hits 8000 and subtracting the start time overage.

A few things

1. car has 3/4 tank of fuel here like last time
2. car has windows up while last time I had them down
3. temperature is low single digits (3.5 Celsius) vs piping hot last time (around 29 Celsius I think?)
4. same exact stretch where I did the test last time, for consistency. i have done PBOX logs there before and it is about 1 foot of elevation change over an 800 foot section.

So this time it appears I hit 3000 at 0.2 seconds on the OBC stopwatch and hit 8000 at 8.4 seconds seconds. So 8.2 seconds to do the rip. About 2-3 tenths quicker than the summer example. Makes sense.

You can really hear (when you're in the car) the car get more aggressive when it gets away from the throttle limiter and when the airbox extra intake flap opens up. When the temperature is this cold and the car is making it's best torque, the limiter is keeping throttle around 52% before 5000+ RPM. Not only is the sound different but it's also evident as the car starts to really move through the RPM quicker, before losing some steam above 7500. Feels that way anyway. 4000-6000 is where it pulls hardest based on RPM/second.

3000 RPM - 4000 RPM = 1.6 seconds
4000 RPM - 5000 RPM = 1.5 seconds
5000 RPM - 6000 RPM = 1.5 seconds
6000 RPM - 7000 RPM = 1.7 seconds
7000 RPM - 8000 RPM = 1.9 seconds

I like the honesty of this test. Nobody has to be a racecar driver, no traction issues, no launch issues, simply your car and a straight road. Stock my car ran similar results to what I am reading under this post (except the sub 8 second post from a downhill run in Chamonix :biggrin2: ), I was getting runs in the mid 8 second range.

Pardon the sub-par video quality. Here is a testimony to the fine workmanship @ TTS. I salute you :beerchug: With the TTS kit, the car does runs in the mid 6 second range at 69 degrees and at sea level. The car is not tuned 100% and some power is lost between 6k and 8k.

Quickest I ran with my car was 6.2 seconds 100-200 kmh which turned a few heads. Quickest doug ran was 7seconds. I ran in -3 degrees. B7 in stock form is boring stick on a supercharger and it becomes fun, for a while.

That's the problem, however much power you have after a while it becomes not enough :FIREdevil:

Looks to be pretty quick. I reckon there's actually more in it as you said, even though you're obliterating any non sc car. I have done this on an APR supercharged rs4 and it was about 6.7 seconds. You should be trouncing the apr kits. What's up with the tune?

Tried a few runs last night, pretty disappointing. I mounted my iphone with a gorillapod pointing at tacho and videod the last few runs, have posted links below in case anyone has a slower stopwatch than me ;)

Best I got was 9.1s

Details:
  • Half a tank of petrol, just myself (90kgs), no other load
  • Elevation was 100m ASL
  • Outside air temp was 6C. It was quite windy, but I did the same run both ways with no noticeable difference.
  • Mileage is 62k, no carbon clean.
  • Fuel was Shell Vpower (UK, 99 RON)
  • Mods: resonators replaced with x-pipe (see thread) and newly fitted Revolution intake (maybe ECU/trims haven't adjusted enough yet??)

3,000 to 8,000 3rd gear test,

Post by sonny » Mon Feb 04, 2013 12:05 pm

Funny as i managed few 6.7s runs when i had the car stripped and running PP bucket seats(66kg lighter). Car was tuned to 449ps iirc.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
