Bare in mind the RS4 has an addition 80bhp over the s4 which easily kills M3's then in reallity with the same driver behind the wheel M3 isn't a challenge. With only 269lbft of torque in the BM an S3 will have a M3 easy too.
As Top Gear's been brought into the equation, we may as well quote Power Lap times too!

E46 M3 goes round the track in the same time as a 535D (Yes, a 5 series Diesel), Nissan 350Z and an RX8.
RS4 laps as fast as a Lambo Gallardo and quicker than an Aston Martin
Even an S4 is almost a second quicker than the E46 M3

look at the douche bag tats on his right wrist
coupled with the blingy shift knob (is he the knob?), the over the top 'diving jersey and gloves', and you have a choad...
top it off with the gawd awful music, the fact that he never got by the guy (it was a driving school, not a race) and the fact that he felt compelled to post it here to raise rabble says it all...and it's not good

what happened here?
you've got a 500 lb lighter car, a/m suspension, wheels, (sport tires?) lw seats, etc.
and yet can't reel this guy in, in fact he toys with you...

lol, so a highly modified, lightened car, with track suspension, big brake kit cats/ecu, etc., on sport tires can't pull a stock RS4 on a dry track...
I'm guessing 15k invested...

I'm not sure what point he is trying to prove? :D

HaHa, I love this guys, if you read the first page of the article, Mr Sahan has "finally realised his dream with an E46 M3"

I pity the fool that dreams of having an E46 M3. You should try and aim a bit higher in your dreams buddy!!

I've had a E46 M3, great car, but its a step behind the RS4 in every way IMHO.

The video which Art links to is very good, it's at Snett in the dry and LoWKalibar just can't catch the RS4 even with all his mods so explains his joy at passing the Bedford car.
What he FAILs to realise is that the Bedford car has a different driver, maybe a novice as Bedford is a good starter circuit, it aint the F1 season with Vettel and Webber battling it out, well not outside of his head.

OK that really is it on this thread for me.

I didnt realise RS4s weighed 2000kgs? Thats a very old video, hence the camera phone stuck to the back of the rear view mirror lol. I didnt have my recaros then, i did have aftermarket suspension, but one of them was leaking, I didnt have the remap (which is why he pulled on me slightly on the straight and i believe I was on Michelin PS2s in that, so yeah, sport tyres.

Don't think much of those 'Rogue Engineering transmission mounts' given how much his gearstick is moving about on that video.

Hence the music playing. Was a very slow day, so just had some fun laps. Not many decent cars. The RS4, ferrari 430 and Nissan GTR were the only decent cars. The GTR was said to be 800bhp, de tuned to 600bhp for the day. Felt like he had detuned it to 50bhp, with how bad he was driving.

I have to say, atleast the Audi drivers know about the basic lines on track.
