TT, I have to say initially I was open to your technical input but having endured the constant barrage of abuse you provide to other members; you remind me of a typical long haul expat. Likes the sound of your own voice, ignorant of and abusive to anyone who has an opinion or fact that is not your own and essentially self blinded that your 'technical superiority' makes you believe that common curtesy and manners are not required because you are so superior. Also you have an uncanny habit of taking comments posted completely out of context to suit your discussion. When I stated the techs had suggested oils were much the same, it referred to longlife 504.00 and 507.00 spec oils, not all oils as you inferred.
Your not and if anything what technical credibility you have is diluted by your downright rude and abusive literature. And my apologies for getting the wrong sized Quantum barrels, next time I'll scale the fence and cross the 20 metre Audi yard to measure the size of barrell to ensure I am precise in what I say.
And as for spec sheets; here is Quantum's 5W-30 Longlife III;
SAE Viscosity Rating 5W-30
Relative Density at 15°C 0.850
Viscosity at 40°C, mm2/s 74
Viscosity at 100°C, mm2/s 12
Viscosity Index 160
Flash Point, °C 210
and Castrol Edge Longlife 5W-30
SAE Viscosity Rating 5W-30
Relative Density at 15°C 0.851
Viscosity at 40°C, mm2/s 70
Viscosity at 100°C, mm2/s 12
Viscosity Index 169
Flash Point °C 202
and Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30
SAE Viscosity Rating 5W-30
Relative Density at 15°C 0.850
Viscosity at 40°C, mm2/s 72.8
Viscosity at 100°C, mm2/s 12.1
Viscosity Index 162
Flash Point °C 254
So apart from the self professed anti-wear technology which is not detailed in the Castrol Edge data sheet there would appear to be little in it. Certainly not if you are changing oil every 5k-10k miles and doing a normal cycle of driving, i.e. no track use. Possibly not even if on a longlife service but I leave that at owners discretion.
Mobil 1 5w-30 VW 504/507 £8.50 for 1L ;-)
mobil1 is a good oil it has been about for years.. i used that in a astra gte 16v 20 years ago if it was crap people would have sussed it by now.. i think the swampy type punter is anti everything yank... quote.... they spend more money on advertising than research.. strange thing to say... others have used it and it meets the spec for our motor.. i am of to asda, which i think i am right in saying is owned by walmart and buying me some god damn moby 1 to drink..RS04OUR wrote:Hmm I thought it was cheap lol

i think its more than adequate for a standard car, particularly if changing the oil yearly. However, is it good enough if u want to later do the exhaust upgrades and remap?? (in other words for a tuned car)
