Audi Amersham have not told me that they dont have the right tool for this! they have been telling me that they dont know how to recharge the Dampners.....which seems crazy! Car in with them for two weeks now!rjkflyer wrote:Yes, they are diagonally linked, and must be replaced in pairs. Also they should replace the central valve.
They system needs pressurising after completion: they need to pressurise BOTH the oil and the gas side. AT present there is no gas side tool in the UK, as I'm waiting on the first one to arrive. And that's taken 2 weeks so far with no report of due date.

Im a Rs6 boy and this is also a big problem on the Rs6. I believe that in Germany they do not have any drc problems. So it must be down to our UK Audi dealers not knowing how to recharge the system. All they seem to do is change the shocks and drc valve ( which comes pre charged or so they say) now how do you connect oil pipes to shocks and drc valves ( i believe are precharged with nitrogen ) And not get air in the system? Surely they have to bleed the system after install, which would mean that pressure would have to be pumped back in ( recharge ??? ) If they dont do this then the system will work for a bit ( not properly! ) until the trapped air gets pushed into the shock, which i guess will cause knocks and all types of other problems. I really think that the problem is that nobody in the UK knows how to fit the system?
What do you lot think to my theory? Seems strange that Audi are still fitting it to new cars if it dont work. It must work when fitted properly!

Mattysupra: agree with your prognosis - (a) of course it SHOULD and CAN work and (b) therefore someone doesn't know what they're doing.
My enduring issue is all about the GAS side which they seemed to ignore or, more likely, not know about. It's not as if they tried, because as it now transpires, there has been no tool in the UK at all to charge the gas side.

Started off with a A4 FSI! Got bored very quickly with this, so they changed it for a Q7 3.0TDI....12 days of driving this house and I am fed up with it.ChrisRS4 wrote:Out of interest, what have Audi given you as a replacement while yours is off the road?WnelsonRS4 wrote:Car in with them for two weeks now!

What's the best way of checking for this?
I've not heard anything unusual when going over sleeping policeman, but I've got SS+ which bolts the wheels directly to the drivers seat...
Any tips much appreciated. I'm hoping there isn't a problem, but the law of averages makes me think there will be

Then just make sure you try the 'sleeping policeman' test. Mine was 'fine' in terms of having fixed the knocking over general bumps (i.e. noise under COMPRESSION) but it was the REBOUND that revealed the problem - i.e. when the suspension uncompresses. What was/is happening is that there's not enough gas damping on the rebound and so the strut maxes out, and , er, knocks...

on the rs6 you will get a wet patch appear on the shock. May only be a drips worth. If you catch it at this stage you can get away with only changing 1 shock. But if you lose 3-4 drips of oil the pressure drops to low and the drc valve is damaged with it. ( or so they say ) Like i said before tho. I dont believe the UK Audi mechanics know how to recharge the system so they just replace the whole lot with pre charged parts.Dom81 wrote:What's the best way of checking for this?

If you RS4 boys want some more info on this then have a look on the RS6 forum. There must be 50 different threads on there! And we all must be on about our 3rd set now.
