Toys.

Do you want to own a 993 for its radio?
A 355 for its auto blinker shut off?
The Lotus Carlton for its..... errrrm, whatever, you get the drift, ne?
Please re-read my earlier post.

90% of 'best' 90% of the time.

If I wanted a track car, I'd get an Aerial Atom. But it sucks to go to the shops. You get my drift? ;)

Yes Neil, a classic feel describes the B7 well. I also think the RS brand has lost its specialness in the B8, cover up the RS4 decals and a lot of the aesthetic touches are available in lesser models which dilutes it somewhat. This wasn't the case when the B7 was in production, for example, the RS4 carbon interior trim was a different weave to that of the S4.

Yes, good point on the 7 digit post code. I'll add that to the DAB and Adaptive cruise features as being useful B8 only toys. All the Assist technology is needless tech really, a few weeks ago I would've lobbed the Pan Roof in as being a good feature. However, a family member has just had their pan roof chipped by a stone which then grew into huge cracks. The insurance company won't put the replacement down against the glass side of the policy and insist it goes down as a fault claim with her having to pay the full excess.

I suppose you can always satisfy yourself that if you leave it much longer, the B7 will be eligible for classic car insurance and VED... ;)

I don't particularly like the B7RS, it doesn't really suit me. I'm just here to tell people they're wrong. It's a thankless job but I relish it.

The interior and gadgets on a Ferrari f40 are dated but I don't hear people complaining about them
The interior on a F40 is dated IMO

The off centre pedal box and the almost bus like rake of the steering wheel would bug me more than the interior to be honest.

F40 is just an animal, not driven them past the 430 but to that date was the only Ferrari that drove how I expected all of them to drive. Loved that it could get outta shape in a straight line if ya not concentrating.

Love both though not driven a B8 :) Steering feel is nice to have though.

No. It's a hardware limitation iirc.

Edit. I stand corrected. It's been done apparently.

All of his key points were trivial; size, weelbase, practicality - I'm a bulkier person but I'd still take the B7 over the B8. Just like I'd have a 993 over a 996.

Power - that gap would be bridged via MRC.

Gearbox - in 5yrs time you'd let your wife get anally pumped by a German engineer if it meant you could have that B7 'box attached to a high-revving V8, or any other ICE for that matter.

Interior - there's nothing wrong with the B7 interior, I drive a C5, I haven't turned the radio/stero/satnav on for 18months. Harden the fcuk up fellas.

Looks - the B7 wins. Period.

The B8 is a middle sibling, it can't beat its older brother because its older brother was a one-off and its impending younger brother is coming out of a completely different mould. If the B8 were offered in saloon it might not have polarised it so badly and there was no reason for it to get heavier either, even if it were for a double-clutcher. It just wasn't the evolutionary step that people were expecting, which is perfectly ok, it is a middle sibling after all. But what would I know, out all the cars with 'that' powerplant, I'd have the RS5, I enjoyed it immensely as the S-Tronic and that engine make sense to my brain when bolted into a coupe GTish kind of a car.

Have you owned and driven a B8 long enough to even quote.....
