Regardless of what the mechanic has said, surely it needs to be changed out if only to rule it out?

Personally I would replace the clutch pedal assembly like Irishmike did in the above post keeping everything else as it is.
Coffey could you please help me a bit?
When you refer in changing the pedal assembly, which part number do you speak about?

My clutch pedal also sits higher out than brake. It rests against the cutout in the lower plastic dash cover. It has a little slack in it before resistance. About an inch or so of free play I can notice when driving but it doesn't seem to affect drivability and always returns all the way up. Maybe I can replace pedal assembly also? Never driven another RS4 so I don't know if they are all like this or if something is improper about my pedal.

That's exactly the behavior of my pedal too.
Obviously does not mean that since i had a problem you will get one too.

The mechanic had another look today and he does not see where it could be broken.
Perhaps the guys who have changed it might shed some light as to the parts that are supposed be changed.

I couldn't find anything wrong and the new clutch is brilliant. If there is some more info maybe it will warrant replacement of clutch pedal assembly but I am saving money for a custom fitted exhaust next. I would like to take the final slack out of pedal but it is driveable and I can live with it.

I have not changed my one yet but will have a look at it when I get back next week and let you know how I get on.

Seems a bit odd that all three of us who had problems and replaced the clutch setup now have pedals that sit high and have a bit of soft feel at the start of the pedals travel.

Could it be that it is the pedal causing the problem in the first place? And by changing out the rest of the clutch system the cause of the problem (stiffness in the pedal mechanism) is masked, possibly by a reduction in seal stiction in the new components which in turn allows the pedal to return correctly again.

It would be good if someone with the sticky clutch problem started out by just changing the clutch pedal and reporting what happens.

Shall I send one in the post to Bladerider.......?

My pedal was doing as described above, resting on the plastic.
The invoice says - Replace Clutch Pedal.
I can ask when it's in for a service to get some specifics if you want.

Then i guess it is only the pedal (part 30 above pics)and nothing of the surrounding ancillary parts.

My clutch failed though. When we took it apart the friction material was gone. Pressure plate adjusted to compensate for wear and masked the failing clutch til it left me with no clutch at all.

Too the pedal off this morning and still shows no sign of problem.
Ordered part number 14 of the bottom picture (sth like a pin) as this may be an issue, but from the looks of it it is unlikely.

If the pedal is to sit straight with the brake pedal and it should not rest on the plastic dash...i think.

A bit of an update.

Picked up the car this mroning and for the time being it drives beautifully.
The clutch "feeling" is totally different and this makes me feel optimistic that this time things are going to be ok.

Fingers crossed....!

Thanks everyone for advising here.

Thanks for the wishes

It was the slave cylinder, master cylinder, some parts of the pedal clutch assembly, new fluids everywhere and the guide sleeve.

The latter was a question though. As in the previous pics mine was metallic but with the round bottom. In other posts here i have seen what was called a "new" version that had instead of a round bottom a triangular one with screw holes. When we ordered the guide sleeve Audi sent the same type like the one i had. Actually when we fitted in, we noticed that the "new" version must have been sth else and not the guide sleeve cause the reception in the shaft is round and there are two holes where you bolt the part that goes on top of the guide sleeve.

Anyways, for the time being it works fine.

And hopefully it will remain as is.....

Many people have replaced this part and it seems like the sticky clutch went away?

let me know

Has anyone on here done that with success? I dont recall anyone confirming the best way to fix this issue with a full set up change?
