Hey thanks very much, yeah I saw some earlier today too. BTW If I can't get something organised with the exhaust in time and should the need arise and someone in London wants to swap it out then I can have a word with the bodyshop, better someone on here has it then goes with the car (again should it get to that I will post on here). Its a full non resonated milltek with 100 cell cats.

Well just heard back from the insurance company that the car is officially written off. The bill from the garage came to 13k + VAT. I have asked for a figure to buy it back and they will let me know tomorrow. The salvage company was booked in wednesday to collect the car. Thats without me agreeing to any settlement figure etc. If i decide to just take the figure and not buy the car back then of course the finance company get paid their chunk and I would have to go through the process of finding another car at a dealer as this finance company only deal with dealers, then its fronting up another deposit and stuff....the pain in the ass of it all. The police came back and said they found no fingerprints to go off and CCTV didnt come back with anything conclusive. The thing now is if I get another and the crooks know they already got away with it, as soon as they see mine or another replacement in the area if they try a second time lucky approach, one part really thinks just to get an inconspicuous car

Get a security film on the inside ofthe glass. Then, they can smash the window but that's it, they can't get in as the broken window fragments bond together and hold the glass in place.

I've been trying to find some locking bolts that are the right size but got distracted, might get back to looking at the weekend. If anyone has some then please pass the details on

I think that most insurance companies write it into the contract that they technically 'own' the car once its written-off and don't have to offer a buy back.

Also on that point of settlement figures i was told by the valuer of the Touareg that if you don't accept the offer it'll go the ombudsman who will review the off and decide if its suitable. In my case the offer was ok, however don't feel pressured into accepting a figure that wont buy a car with a similar spec/mileage/condition/history than yours.

Considering this, IF you were going to buy that car back they may not give you a great payout but could maybe do a good deal on the buy back. As before look at 25% for a Cat C and it seems 35% for a cat D.

I'm not 100% but that's not how I understand it.
You have to accept the offer.
The process should be they write it off and then offer an amount - in contract terms they are paying you in lieu of repairing the vehicle. They don't own anything until they pay you for the car that's left!

Thanks for the info and the link to the seats for sale. I had a look and they are not mine but do seem in good condition. Mine had just been repaired to have the scuffs removed on the bolsters and the company that did it had one final bit to do on the stitching to match the colour so mine look like there is some thread missing on a particular section...

The insurance company said mine has been classed as a CAT D. They said the valuers are putting a price together as a settlement figure and also will give a buy back figure which I should find out tomorrow. They are now dealing with the finance company to get the settlement figure from them and should have all the info for me tomorrow.

Thanks about the info on the glass film, I think should I get this back or another that will be done straight away.

I guess a CAT D will be easier to sell on when the time comes if it all stacks up financially. I wish I had found a pool of blood next to the broken glass to atleast know some pain was felt on their part!!

As mentioned before if I do not opt to get the car back or decide not to get another one I will let you know the breakers and really would be worth while someone taking the exhaust. I am sure the salvage company won't know its a full milltek, atleast it will benefit someone on here :-)

Blimey - they look well moody - wonky picture and not a RS4 in the background - I'd be tempted to turn up for a viewing with the old bill!

wow so he is certainly familiar with RS4 seats then, he told me he had these on his car and changed them for the comforts, unless he fixed that last bit of detailing which was remaining on mine which wasnt much, just a bit of stitching to match... certainly a time appropriate advert. maybe worth popping down for a closer examination. The leather repair guy was as pissed as I was when he found out as he spent a long time to do a good job for me, he would be able to match it straight away

You could always get a set of recaro comfort seats for it as they are much less likely to be stolen due to lack of demand?

The guy on ebay sounds like he is well at it........

Yeah I think to be honest if I do take it back for a while I would just get comfort or similar basic seats to get me going and see what comes up, this way if the **** come back when they recognise the car it will deter them for a bit, sad to say but right now I have kind of lost interest in the RS4 (as in when your car is dented, scratched, damaged etc and its just not the same feeling you get about your car.. or maybe thats just me :-) The RS4 as a car is still for me the ultimate in practicality for work and pleasure factor
