Here are cars that tick all your boxes re being a 'minter' (FASH, avg miles, good spec, no need for tyres, brakes etc) and are priced accordingly to your rules, yet they've been on sale for at least a month (in some cases 2 or more) without selling, most have seen several price reductions...

If I were to buy any of those cars, I would INSTANTLY go anywhere from £4-6k into negative equity. Why would any sane person do that? Why would I not hold on for a car that is sensibly priced, when I know (and have seen) that sensibly priced cars do exist. I'm not talking about cars that need work doing/parts etc, these are cars that went fall into your 'minter' category i.e. the Sprint Blue car I just missed out on.

Tired of trying to justify my decision, so prob best I keep my opinions to myself becasue it's clear that some on here don't like them.
I'm sorry to see you have such a jaundiced view of buying an RS4. Looking at the ads you have quoted here's what I see wrong;

1/ Black Avant- with standard optics but a different grille surround and refurbed wheels that don't match anything, little information
2/ Mugello- nice colour, looks in decent nick, zero info about the car, incorrect power figure.
3/ Daytona- but has folding mirrors rather than standrd RS ones and MFSW, pics aren't good, says well specced but crap info, no detail on history
4/ Black Avant- very expensive, poor no. of pictre, has alu trim (not to everyone's tastes) and looks like it has tyre issues as TPMS warning on DIS, says has buckets when comforts, power boot close which wasn't available, cf inlays when they are alu. Would put me off ringing them because they can't even specify the car they have
5/ Mugello- basic description, alu trim and phone cradle
6/ Avus- Marmite colour, vague description again.

As for your asertion about negative equity, you'll lose money on any RS4 if at market price because when you come to sell it book value will be poor. If it is a financial decision which it appears increasingly to be, you may be looking at buying the wrong car. That's to say you would buy a car at the price advertised; reality is that most do not and offer and buy for less than sticker price.I fear your 'sensible price' is more like the holy grail, you'll be looking a while. Which is fine if that is what you want to do; but to try and offer consumer advice on your standards on an RS4 forum where members are often acutely aware of their cars' worth of have recently bought / sold themselves is not the best strategy

OK no more slating No.1 as I just bought it :bigwave: It was showing for sale still last few weeks while they sorted out my trade in and after that and a few negotiations I got it at a reasonable price for the condition, like you say sometimes the maths doesnt add up totally but if you get a nice one you will be enjoying the car for a long time (i stopped doing the maths after the B5 and also on the trip back from the dealers when I saw the petrol gauge literally moving :-)

No.4 I went to see as it was right near me, looks genuine at that mileage it says when I went through the paperwork and had a rear flat tyre when it came in but the day I went to see it they had it up for 20k (it literally had just come in and been in their showroom a couple of days being prepped) then I guess they got wise or greedy and put the price up, when it came in it seemed like a bit of an unloved car and a bit tatty in places for such a low mileage car.

I know very few people (including myself from the array of cars in the past to ever think of them as investments... I dont even want to think how much I have lost over the years with cars depreciating but then when I think back on some of them it puts a smile on my face and that says it all for me :biggrin3:

kd, not slagging the car, merely the advert. It also depends on what price you got it for and whether that was in your budget. Just my observations and an advert is after all the most important part of selling a car, just surprises me how poor most are in terms of content and would sstop a large proportion gettting in touch for more info. / a viewing.

yeah i was only joking...now that I have bought it I want to place my head firmly in the sand with anyone that knows anything about that car :?

I know, I was surprised too, when I saw mine in person the bodywork and interior was very clean so thought they could have put some amazing pictures up. A lot of cars I didnt shortlist as most were too far and the pictures or the lack of spec did not entice me, its only because I was after one with a sunroof and in phantom black that I pursued this one further. Its amazing what a good camera and write up would do :-)

How on earth can you descibe any of those as minters without viewing? Your buying methods are heavily flawed and i seriously wonder if your aware of what type of car your buying and its associated running costs,youve had good advice from currents owners recent buyers and traders,yet accept none of it! Your not in great buying position given you want to p/x,if the dealer foesnt want yours he will wallop you even harder with his bid to achieve a trade to trade profit or cover auction commisions etc etc youve only ever bleated on about price year and mileage do you know a straight car in the flesh? Can you spot accident damage repairs? Shoddy wheel re furbs? Forged histories? Etc etc I ask because you seam to concentrate purely on purchase price which is only one of tbe ingredients you should be considering as to wether its a good overall buy or not.Whats your current car? Ive a feeling this is your first car of this type from your attitude to buying.Waving cap and glasses is ok when buying a mondeo but not with this type of car im afraid,theres much more to valueing them,discs n pads allroind would buy a mondeo for gods sake! A car thats had accident damage that your unnable to spot could leave you with an unsaleable motor.And hpi clear means bugger all ! I could go on and on but i fear we are all wasting our time as non of it seems to have been taken onboard.

Yes I had it inspected at Audi who checked it through and had any work done that was necessary and my friend also looked through it who used to be a master tech at audi. The trade in wasnt the big point, I knew how much I wanted for it and how much it was worth. I could have a general look at cars condition but to be honest I am not great at that and so do my best by getting it inspected. The one I had was a BMW 535d Estate but before that it was a B5 RS4 and Porsche 911 Turbo, a few M3s before that and so on so know what I enjoy and their upkeep. I went to look at quite a few with my friend who knows more locally but anything too far I left out apart from this one. I didnt describe any as minters unless you are referring to someone elses post? Sorry if there was any confusion
