Re: My trip to Banbury today...
Big question is how is the sound in the cabin - is it boomy at all, like the milly can be ?

Re: My trip to Banbury today...
It is fookin loud in the cabin. It sounds like someone has hidden a race car in the boot. Opening the windows makes little difference as it so loud anyway. I think most people will say it booms, it suffers the usual milltek non res centre section drone at 2k. Notch it up or down a gear and it goes. Only drones when next accelerating as the burbbling takes over the drone.spikeyboy101 wrote:Big question is how is the sound in the cabin - is it boomy at all, like the milly can be ?
Re: My trip to Banbury today...
That didn't take long! I got stopped for speeding on way home today by an unmarked police car. They said I was going way too fast (60 in a 40 then 80 in a 60) and undertaking. I didn't want to argue the technicalities that I wasn't undertaking just driving faster on the empty inside lane while all the other cars seemed to want to drive in the outside qlane when they were overtaking nodoby. He said it wasn't because of the exhaust but did say it was illegal to modify any exhaust to make it louder. He also commented on the (only very slightly) illegal spacing on my number plate.
Given all of the above I was in no real position to dispute. Add to that, they thought I was some career criminal that must have the same name as me (I had to show my tattoos and lack of scars to prove I wasn't then criminal they were after).
Anyway they gave me a section 59 which means I have to drive sensibly for a whole year or they could take my car!
It's so hard to drive slowly when the exhaust sounds soooo good under load!
I need to try and get a proper video of it before my car is impounded. It sounds so much more outrageous in real life then it sounds on the MRC video.

Just bad luck Mike
Yes get a video up of it under load - maybe you could ask that copper if he had any on board footage!

I can drive slowly for a short while if im doing some serious listening to the upgraded stereo I've fitted. But a whole year!?!joesnow wrote:Is that going to be possible???MikeFish wrote: Anyway they gave me a section 59 which means I have to drive sensibly for a whole year or they could take my car!
Re: My trip to Banbury today...
The problem is I can't do it in the morning other wise I'll wake everyone up. My wife says that even when she is asleep in bed and I start the car in the morning it makes her jump! I have to try and navigate the first few hundred metres without giving too much beans!Gavla wrote:Just bad luck MikeYes get a video up of it under load - maybe you could ask that copper if he had any on board footage!
Re: My trip to Banbury today...
Yes mine used to do that (the car that is
), it’s garaged and it echoed like f&*k on start-up. Not popular with the curtain twitchers. Thank god for the quiet start mode now as my previous REVO map never had this and for 30 seconds it would hover around 2K rpm - just on the exhaust resonance

Yeah, it's lucky I got the quiet start mode. I nearlt told Doug to not bother with it! Just as well otherwise id have been banned from starting it until the missus was awake.Gavla wrote:Yes mine used to do that (the car that is), it’s garaged and it echoed like f&*k on start-up. That's a truly awesome sound, it must be louder than mine was!MikeFish wrote:I can drive slowly for a short while if im doing some serious listening to the upgraded stereo I've fitted. You can always put in cabin operated valves, talk to Hayward and Scott. Problem is, you've got the Tubi back sections and you probably don't want to cut that up. It's gunna be tough to live with longterm, I tried and eventually admitted defeat, it was a very, very interesting 6 weeks though.
IMO, to anyone considering this, just go custom from DPs back. It's waaaay better/cheaper to design it for maximum attack with a switch over to silenced/CAT running. As opposed to fitting a loud exhaust only to end up cutting back, it's illogical and a false economy.
This.

Produced this.

I then added very large silencers to the main 'zoorst route and installed an actuated valve bypass side pipe... well I say I did it but it was really H&S.

No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: My trip to Banbury today...
Thanks Bam, I have actually been thinking along these lines but didnt know who could actually do the work. I'll look into H&S.
I've alreayd had to have the Tubi butchered to mate onto the Milltek so I'm not worried about butchering it any more if it means it makes it better. As it is a quad exhast I was thinking about seeing if somebody coud fit OEM style flaps into 2 of the four pipes. I imagine if the mechanical side was possible by buthcering the original exhaust and using those valves with tailor made flaps would be nice and easy to get working (from a vacuum controlled by sport button point of view). I think I'd prefer a seperate switch though so I could control them individually from the sport mode but hey if it makes it easier then so be it.
PS, Now that is how you make an exhaust!!! Did you keep the original to swap over for MOTs? I can't see the yuotube clip yet as I'm on a work PC but I'll check it out on my way home.

Re: My trip to Banbury today...
The OEM isn't retained and there are zero CATs, so it'll be interesting come next MOT time.
