Re: Storing the RS4 for 5 years?
Hang on hang on...
One second the GTR is criticised for no back seat and then within a few posts an exige s2 crops up!
I think the total cost for pre-storage setup (service, oil etc), storage, post-storage setup (another service etc) and depreciation is going to be well above 15k... possibly near 20k depending on the market for big fuel thirsty 10 year old cars. If thats not a factor then grand - but it's a point that does need considering.
It does depend on how attached you are to the car... but I don't think I've owned a car that I'd be prepared to spend 15k-20k on to not use it.
If you like it that much, is it not worth seeing if you could take it with you?
Exige S2's are great cars (although I have a soft spot for the S1... as do many as they are holding incredible values nowdays).

Re: Storing the RS4 for 5 years?
If it weren't for the need for a more practical fuel efficient everyday car or as I nearly had the opportunity to last year by moving to Dubai, I would also keep the car in storage. It wasn't about the cost because the tax free element and uplift in earnings over there would have covered the storage cost, paid out the PCP and I would have still had more disposable income than I would in the UK and something outrageous to drive in the UAE. It is genuinely a brilliant car and if money permitted I would keep it and when they are at £15-20k now they are nearing the window where it would be worth doing; not from a financial perspective but from an emotive one.
The only concern I would have is from experience these cars do like to be driven, I'm not sure how well it would take to being stored for 5 years.

Re: Storing the RS4 for 5 years?
Ads, I have a soft spot for the S1 also, it's just that the Exige is significantly cheaper in a all respects to the GTR. P_G, I agree with the 'driven' comment and that worries me a lot but, if I store for over 6 months, the car will come out of storage and go straight to Doug @ mrc to look over it. I have become a little attached to the car just as I did with my ST24 many moons ago!

Re: Storing the RS4 for 5 years?
To be honest the best thing to do would be to ave a carbon clean prior to storage. The main thing with the cars being left is the carbon must dry out or something. If its nice and clean then it can be left without issue (not including the normal storage tips).
Exige vs gtr's just depends on what floats your boat. Exige will be slower (unless a very tight twisty track) but I always find it to be an event. Gtr is an impressive car and I wouldn't criticise anybody getting one but it not for me. I *like* the feeling that if a car is being hustled quickly then it's all me. TBH, i prefer the older rover elises as they have nothing - sure the 211 is bonkers quick but its a little *too* good. The rs4 sits nicely in between - great chassis control and traction but not overly assisted. You can still get into an awful mess if you are too ham fisted but getting your arse out of trouble is easier. If you lose the tail of an Elise and when not expecting it then recovery is 99% luck!

Re: Storing the RS4 for 5 years?
You need to do a Chris Harris type review Ads, it's the sort of thing normal blokes would really appreciate. I also like a purposeful drive because of my ability and not the cars which would turn me off the GTR as it has done for a lot of guys which is why I was thinking Exige. But you're right, when that Exige lets go - it'sd going to end in tears unlike the RS which is more predictable.
