RS4 - RS5 Anyone?
Re: RS4 - RS5 Anyone?
The problem with the RS5 is never going to be under the control of Audi...
Put simply it's the M3...
The RS4's big niche was that it was in a market of 1. It really defined the premium super estate and saloon market.
Nobody else did a practical premium saloon or estate with proper power that actually worked without looking chav.
The fact the B7 is a hoot to drive is an added bonus.
Now when you get to the 2 door sports coupe... this is a flooded market.
M3 obviously but you have AMG Mercs, GTR's, Porsche 911's, AMv8's, Evora's... And many more.
Hell, even the TT-RS waves it fat arse in this crowd. All 2+2 (barely) 4 seaters to fit any kind of wallet. The RS5 simply didn't have any edge over these other cars or have any party piece's to seperate it.
We're still in the depths of recession but I would wager that more B8 RS4's will be sold thatn RS5's.

Re: RS4 - RS5 Anyone?
That might be the one i drove, its odd how on paper its an m3 competitor but somehow it just isnt, good vfm is good for a buyer but with the general sucsess of of it overall i think it will continue to be good vfm for buyers but poor for owners. The latest m3 is bland in comparison to the e46 but you know its an m3 still,i honestly believe jo bloggs could walk past an RS5 and not bat an eyelid.I can see it in a golf course car park with a 50 yr old owner who would think it handles "just fine" at the 70% he drives it at.If its to take on the m3 or older b7 it has to do much better in many areas imo,i comfortable can go quicker in my b7 with no drc settings whatso ever, thats not progress
and it needs the cracking gearbox to get the most out of the now gutless high revving engine.I liked it for a test blat but you cant drive it like that to extract the best from it everyday!
