Front brakes
Re: Front brakes
Here a link to read all about ' WARPED DISCS' http://www.powerbrake.co.za/downloads/t ... judder.pdf
This explains why skimming your discs may be a waste of time.

Re: Front brakes
Yup - I've seen both articles before and really do match what I saw.
My second set of wrecked discs from the vxr8 went to a lab and the analysis was conclusive.

Re: Front brakes
Remember, that having your discs skimmed was not meant to be the "be all and end all" fix. It surely meant to "squeeze" a few extra miles out of your used discs.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: Front brakes
Thats why i am fitting the new phaeton ones hopefully they will not warp as quick as standard rs4 ones and i am going to be very gentel on them to start with so the old pads bed into new disc's nicely,
Re: Front brakes
Don't be too gentle on them... As long as you don't stamp on them and go mad it's fine.

Re: Front brakes
I'm guessing your not fitting new pads as well then?
Just hope you don't end up regretting that. As mentioned I did it once and never again. For example had my new discs fitted today plus new pads even though my old pads only have 4,000 miles on them.
Not fitting new pads can be a massive false economy.

Agreed - crazy not to do itspikeyboy101 wrote:Not fitting new pads can be a massive false economy.
I'm grateful for this thread as I was considering skimming mine (due to a bit of corrosion & judder, but hardly worn at all) - now I'm kicking myself for not joining the GB a few weeks ago...

Si,supersi wrote:Had mine skimmed a few times due to warping, no need to change pads IMO but is good practice, there soon bed in, you can dress the pads back to flat surface but IMO not really needed
I did find if oem is warped and you do skim it soon comes back, I was never sure if due to poor disc or when heated just return to there warped state ... Hence why had the LOBA b7 disc upgrade made
Did you have them skimmed on the car or off? I can get mine skimmed on the car but not sure how this will turn out due to the floating design.

Re: Front brakes
Forgot to add - you want to get heat in them with less friction force.api330 wrote:Cheersadsgreen wrote:Don't be too gentle on them... As long as you don't stamp on them and go mad it's fine.
Good long stop from motorway speeds is good
