Heres another view for ya Jules:

The splitter does start to flare out a little at each fog light before it tucks back in under the bumper but still love it

What did you use to clean up the silver part of the gearknob? Mine has some scratches on it and yours looks like new. I quite like it with the blue. :rocker:

Also, I'm sure my wife would love me if I was to bring the front bumper of my car into the house!!!!! Lol :notworthy:

The gear knob reflects what the rest of the interior is like; spotless, so no elbow grease needed.

My wife was away on business for 3 days last week so took full advantage...by bringing car parts into the house! I did thoroughly clean it before doing so though, I'm as house proud as her :dung:

The JHM short shifter arrived today from the States; only ordered it 3 days ago!

I can see why it cost what it does, it feels very well engineered and there is absolutely no slack in the ball joint.

And the best bit is…no import duty, well so far! Anyone know if I’m likely to get a surprise bill in the post from Customs as I expected to be handed a bill by FedEx upon delivery?

Price including delivery was £211.57 and was expecting to pay an additional £38duty+£8handling taking it up to £257.57. I was offered the short shift through various UK based companies that deal indirectly with JHM for £275-£280 but decided to go direct and hope that my calcs were correct. Seems like it may have paid off!

Will be fitting this over the next couple of weeks…can’t wait!

FedEx usually send an invoice afterwards for the duty and VAT plus their collection fee (expect that to be around £12) - it can take up to 2 weeks to arrive.

Shortshifter does look good! Let us know how it feels once its fitted! I've been trying to find a decent shortshifter but still haven't came across one yet.

Nope, that one comes with a new pivot housing etc. Sonny's one which is now in mine is only the stick and the bottom connector.

Thought I would add some bling to the very black interior. Ordered these aluminium rings from Aluringe24 on German ebay. They come with a 'milled' finish so I used a green scourer to give a brushed effect.

The only disappointment is that the stereo knobs are too short, but from the driver’s seat you can't tell

Well I’ve had the JHM short shifter installed for about 3 weeks now and have finally got the gear changes pretty much perfect, maybe even better than how the OEM shifter was set-up.

As I said before my gearbox didn’t seem to suffer with the problems getting 2nd gear on a cold gearbox that some other RS4s do, but after adjusting the JHM shifter about 3-4 times over a few weeks to get it spot-on I’m pretty sure that with a bit of patience and understanding of how to adjust the linkage onto the shifter I’m sure it’s possible to improve poor shifting boxes.

Here's how the OEM shifter looks, notice the grease on the 2 runners either side of the shifter, I have no idea why this is required as the runners are only there to get the shifter in the correct location ‘front to rear’ then once one of the adjusting bolt is tightened it never moves along those runners again.
Image

Here is how the OEM shifter was set-up before being removed. Bolts A & B are the only two means of making adjustments to how easy gears can be selected. Bolt A is really only used to get the shifter in the correct vertical position. If you move the shifter housing towards the rear of the car, the gap in the slot indicated by arrow D gets larger. Arrow C is pointing to the end of the linkage arm which is just hidden from view under the silver coloured rectangular washer held in place by bolt B. This is the main means of adjusting the gear selections by sliding this connection fwds or backwards.
Image

I also greased the shifter shaft where it slides up and down to go into reverse (spring removed in this pic), this wasn’t suggested in the instructions but it feels much slicker with a bit of loob!
Image

JHM shifter installed, note no grease on the runners as isn’t necessary IMO. I went with the medium strength spring for reverse. The shifter comes with the soft spring pre-installed which is supposed to be the same as OEM but I found the gear knob would bounce up and down if I wrested my hand on it whilst driving.
Image

Shifter adjusted so the bottom half is vertical and the top half is angled back towards the driver.
Image

4 spacers are supplied for the B7 RS4 to raise the shifter housing by about 8mm, this appears to be a development part to give more clearance at the bottom end of the shifter.
Image

This is the bolt positions for the final set-up. Notice gap A is similar to OEM but the silver rectangular washer is further forward than OEM revealing about 3-4mm of the end of the linkage arm (arrow B). I used the end of the linkage arm as the datum for adjustments and would make 1/2mm ish increments fwds or backwards from this point until I could get all gears easily, then test drive for a few days and adjust further if required. It takes a while but it’s worth it in the end! The whole gear lever now feels solid with no ‘waggle’ in the gear knob and gears can now be selected with a flick of the wrist :beerchug:
Image

These are the tools I kept in the glove box for a few weeks so I could make adjustments when required
Image

I recommend you watch the JHM videos at the bottom of this page a few times to get your head around installation and adjustments:
