I'd stop wasting your time Graeme. Just get your money back (and the value of your trade-in).
There's plenty of other good cars out there buddy.

Well done! Keep your head and don't let your anger/emotions dictate what you end up doing. You're handling this much better than I would. Do keep us posted.

All this <beep> will be a distant memory in a few months when you're motoring about in your new car, whichever one it turns out to be. :D

I must admit, I'm inclined to just do this
However, my logic of persevering is that if they do sort these issues out, I'm going to have a very good car with many of the major issues resolved early on and hopefully have some hassle free motoring
I'll give it a few days to see what they do and then escalate or reject
If for no other reason than if I reject it, all they're gonna do is readvertise it and sell it to sOmeone else who may not know until it's too late and lands a £4k bill

Worth bearing in mind that you really don't have to deal with Audi warranty.
You are covered under the sale of goods act and this always trumps warranties.

The dealer has to prove that the issues happened after the sale and with a clutch failing in this way you'd be very hard to show this.

With the exhaust if they won't cough up then just buy an after market one (sounds better)

I'd persevere with this if the car had a particular mileage/colour/option list/condition that you know you will struggle to find again in a reasonable time scale?
You can get a stack of Audi option parts professionally retro fitted and warranted but I found it harder 'this time round' finding cars in top condition regardless of mileage.

Hi,Greame
Clutch aside most of those points are minor but irritating,i would be concerned the cars had a substantial prang on the n/s corner as the engine cover doesnt need removing for servicing etc,you are experiencing the COUGH "all component" warranty first hand.As ive said before i dunno how they get away with it! If the cars a good one the exhaust would be cheap to source secondhand but why bother id fit a milly,im not sure an oil change is done matter of course prior to sale of an spproved car i think its serviced if it needs it but otherwise just stays inline with routine service schedule.Your right the dealer will prob just re retail it,one near me had a sprint avant yoyo that they couldnt do the drc on properly at the same time they couldnt sort mine,it was sold a few times and returned.my own car had a cross against brake condition on a service carried out a few hundred miles before it was retailed as approved, the approved tick sheet had a tick on brakes with nothing done to the front discs and pads.If you want to keep the car call customer services ive found them helpfull at resolving issues fairly,if not hand it back you simply shouldnt be looking at buying exausts etc days after purchase,to be fair most numpty techs wouldnt even know to check them unless they own one and are familiar with such niggles creeping in with age.

I had problems with my R8 when I bought it last year and can relate to what you going through. The initilal problem with the car( front diff ) was sorted under warranty by my local dealery. The car then developed other faults and the suppling dealer offered to repair it even though they are almost 300 miles away. They delivered me a courtesy car on a trailer and took the R8 away for repair. The car was returned to me repaired and with a full tank of fuel and a cheque for £500 for my inconvenience. The car obviously hadn't gone through the riguorous checks that the dealers say they have, and shouldn't have left them with some of the faults that it had, but it was all handled very well in the end.I did have to get in touch with the dealer principle to get it all sorted though and would recommend you do the same, don't mess about talking to salesmen or sales manager at Harrogate you need to speak to the top man.Audi CS where absolutely hopeless during all his I should add even though they have a dedicated 'R8 Team'.The Audi 30 day hand back is only if they can't repair the car so don't rely on this if you want to reject it.As already mentioned the sale of goods act is your friend on this occasion. If you feel your getting nowhere speak to trading standards Harrogate, the car is not fit for purpose with a worn clutch and should be repaired free of charge.I can't see the warranty co paying for any of the faults that have been listed so Harrogate will have to foot the bill or take the car back and repair it.Best of luck sorting it.

Sorry you are having such a problem with the car, although glad it occurred while you are protected by Audi. I think if it were me I would ask Swindon Audi to facilitate the return of your Golf/money & then tell them if they can find another RS4 or, better still, get this car up to scratch, then you will buy from them. That way they have the opportunity to make some money & will try extra hard to make sure the new car you get is 100% + they sound like they know what they are doing...

Good luck with sorting this one out Graeme, hope it all turns out for the best whether you stick with this car or get another one.

For what its worth, I bought mine used approved 14 months ago from Salisbury Audi. I was so excited about getting an RS4 I committed the cardinal sin of buying the first one I looked at (I wasn't overly bothered about the exact spec)! Touch wood nothing has gone wrong in that 14 months and Salisbury were pretty good during the buying process. But, I've always had the nagging feeling that the pre sale used approved checks probably weren't carried out all that thoroughly. No real evidence of this, just a gut feeling. Plus, there's plenty of testimony on here that used approved is not all its cracked up to be and is applied inconsistently at best across the dealer network.

Once again, best of luck.

Knew someone who bought a B6 S4 Avant like mine from Audi, months later had a puncture, went under the boot to find a bare alloy with no tyre!

I feel for you here mate, I had the same thing happen to me when I bought a 911 from OPC Glasgow.

I spent about £5k over the odds to buy from a Porsche dealership thinking the car would be tip top but after just one week I was in OPC Chester with issues! It turned out around £5k needed spending on the car to bring it up to "Porsche Approved Used" standard and after Chester stepped in it was all rectifed at cost to OPC Glasgow :jump_clap:

Since then I have always bought private but try hard to get one with manufacturers warranty, fingers crossed I have done well so far! I have also saved thousands on the cars which is a bertie bonus ;)

Graeme

Good luck getting this sorted - I'm sure you will if you're firm but fair with the supplying dealer.

As lofty says, you'd be well advised to go to the dealer principal (in writing is best) so it's all clear. Set out all the faults / issues and ask them to rectify them or you'll be returning it under the 30 day Audi policy. Sounds like they'd be best placed to sort the issues out and keep you as a happy customer, as if they took it back from you they'd either have to sort them anyway if tried to re-sell, or sell at auction as it is, and lose money. If you get this all agreed the supplying dealer will almost certainly want to take it back and sort it all themselves as it'll cost them a lot less than getting another dealer closer to you to do it and paying them.

If they don't agree and return under 30 days is your only option, then so be it - there will be other cars out there and it's more important you're happy with it.

To be fair to the Audi warranty, I wouldn't expect it to help out, as these all sound like 'pre-existing' issues that simply shouldn't have been present when you bought it, so it sits squarely with the supplying dealer.

I had a very similar issue when I got mine late last year from an Audi dealer 250 miles away from me, and it came down to the same thing, of them not having checked it properly pre-sale. Communications were all very civilised though, and I simply gave them the option to fix the issues or have the car back under the 30 day policy. They elected to sort everything; they brought a loan car to me on a transporter and took mine away just before Christmas, then brought it back in the New Year. All told, probably about £3k of work on a £24k sale, so I was very happy, and very pleased I bought from a dealer so there's the back up of the Audi approved used standards etc.

Hi Graeme,

Sorry to hear about all this, I got mine last November from Warrington Audi and they were superb but thats another story... I have used HArrogate Audi and to be honest although I dont like any dealers they have been good, I find the Service Manager Austin very good to deal with. With my old RS6 they did try about 5 times to repair the DRC but failed. In the end they paid to get it all replaced with 3rd party coilovers at Unit 20 which was pretty amazing really.

I did have a problem with my Bluetooth so booked it into Audi, and my rear wash jet wasnt working. They phoned me to say the phone needed a new module (£400) and this was covered under warrnaty, but the wash jet was a pipe that had come unplugged under the wheel arch - £170 and wont be covered by warranty. I told them to fix it and I would speak with Warrington Audi - Basically they did this for me and it was all covered. So happy - IF you havent already, do speak to Austin as he has always been more than reasonable with me - AND I dont even get my car serviced there just use them for warranty!!

Lig.
