Sorry to bang on about this Mini carlisle have rang me to day and said they have replaced the clutch and the flywheel and the slave cylinder (again) and its still not returning properly I'm running out of ideas everything has been replaced, i don't know what else it could be nor do they, i can see them giving me my money back but i don't want it i want my car, it took me 6 months to find this one and i don't want to lose it. What could be causing this ?

Its has been fixed after having a new clutch and flywheel they discovered that the return pipe, that was supposed of been change when the master and slave were changed, wasn't, they put the new pipe on and its all is OK, the garage that done the first job said they changed and they never, someone is in the <beep>, have to wait til Monday for them to bring it back then i can at last start enjoying my car 6 weeks after buying it. Thanks for everyones input ,you were all right it was the pipe, shame none of the mechanics had your knowledge :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:

that hose is a common problem and has a service bulletin associated with it...
so they replaced the hose (among other things) and that didn't fix it?
then did all that work (clutch, flywheel, etc.) and THAT didn't fix it
then they replaced the master to slave hose again, and that did fix it?

wow, simply wow

I brought it with the problem and took it to Audi specialist where i live because the mini garage i got it from is 400 miles away, they said it was cylinders and pipe, mini said go ahead with the work so they done it, didn't solve the problem, they then said it would be the clutch, mini wouldn't go for it so they collected it, took it apart said the clutch was fine but changed it,, i payed for the flywheel for my own piece of mind, they put it all back together under the assumption the pipe had been changed and it still didn't fix it they then took it apart again still looked fine then checked the pipe and said it looked old put a new pipe on and it worked, the Audi specialist didn't change the pipe, W**KERS!
