Also remember that in US petrol octane is quoted as the average of MON and RON, which is about 5 octane lower than the RON quoted in Europe.

So US 93 gasoline = European 98 petrol.

Not sure I follow you?

If a US owner says "I run 93 octane" then it's easy for us Europeans to think "that's cr*p" but actually since it would be called 98 octane here then it's not cr*p after all.

correct... we rate (MON + RON)/2...you guys use only the RON
add 4 to 5 points to get a euro equivelent...

ratings also vary by altitude regions
