Sorted mine this weekend after no click noise or movement with VCDS check.

Ordered the solenoid (after finding the part number on here via the search function numbers as below), airbox out, cleaned and lube the flap with silicone spray, new solenoid in, check with VCDS - Job done :bigblink:

For any new users finding this via searching - its easy, there is a good post i used explaining to loosen the headlight and unclip the coil pack wires etc (Courtesy of the original poster neckarsulm :beerchug:)

Part numbers & Link to original post below:

Solenoid Part Number - 037906283C Cost circa £50 + VAT
Lower airbox with flap - 079129614D Cost circa £57 + VAT

silverRS4, thank you very much for this excellent guide. I recently received my VCDS cable and just finished all these tests. Everything works except for the exhaust flaps. The diaphragm is working but the flaps are seized in the open position. The bushes are a mess. That's the next job.

I have been trying to do this but keep getting the message “Requirements for Output Test not Met”. Has anyone managed to figure out what the other criteria is and complete the test?

It's very fussy - you have to connect VCDS with te car off.
Run the engine and let idle for a couple minutes to make sure vac full.
The switch off engine but leave ignition on.
Then run tests.

You only get one go before you have to restart car and repeat process.
You also can't skip tests and each ones drain the stored vacuum so write down or learn the order so you can skip to the one you want quickly.

Thank you.

Managed to run the test and it looks like the flap is not moving at all so off now to try and get the airbox out. the link http://www.volkswizard.co.uk/airbox.htm doesn't work anymore. Does anybody have a new link to it or can post a copy of the information?

What a **** of a job it is to replace that air box flap solenoid. . . I wish I had paid Audi to do it now. Still off for a drive after I am cleaned up to see if it makes a difference.

Just ran the VCDS on this and all checks out except the air box flap solenoid and flap actuation.

Good vacuum as the rest of the vacuum dependant tests after the 'Intake Air Switch Over Valve' are carried without a problem, but the actual 'Intake Air Switch Over Valve' has no flap actuation or solenoid clicking - parts ordered, job for tomorrow :?

So, just replaced the dead solenoid and lower airbox on mine. Relatively an easy job (but the solenoid location is a real bummer). Headlamp loosened and moved forward a touch helps. Airbox slips out with a few twists and some easing. With the initial test this is about 90 minutes with a final test, full VCDS test ran and a kitkat and coffee break too :D

Parts are £53.22 for the solenoid and £68.64 (admittedly the kind boys at Tonbridge Audi parts gave me some discount) for the lower airbox from audi all plus VAT.

Highly recommend this test and if it fails, switch the parts and sort it!

Thanks to Iain_S4 for the pointers - probably why I did it in 90 minutes :beerchug:

Your welcome. Right 90 minutes to beat next time!!

From reading other posts I knew I should be able to get the headlight far enough forward without touching the bumper but just couldn't get it too work :bash: . In the end gave up and pulled the side of the bumper forward.

The air box power flap - MRC took care of the intake manifold flaps - two very different items :bigblink:
