Heres a vid of it on being done on a Jag with some carbon emissions tests before and after.

https://youtu.be/wiViPKIoG68

It does seem to work however I think a before and after tear down on an RS4 will put the topic to rest once and for all!

I would do it if there was such a service avail in NZ.
It physically impossible for it to work on direct injection engines like the RS4.

Unlike a conventional engine, fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber. Therefore, it doesn't touch or pass through the back of the inlet valves where the carbon deposit has build up. The only benefit I can see is the fuel injectors, which should be cleaner due to this cleaning process.

I had the enginecarbonclean (the h2o one) which pumps something like hydrogen and oxygen in through the air intake. There was a definite improvement in the smoothness of the engine when driving in traffic (similar to the benefit that I felt from an MRC carbon clean). Before the clean I had been taking logs of mass air flow as this is directly related to and therefore a good indicator of the amount of power being produced. I did the same after the clean. There was no increase in mass air flow. The improvement in smoothness may well have been due to the nuts being revved off it as part of the process as previously mentioned.

So this pumps hydrogen into inlet cleans carbon build up which then gets flushed into cylinders and out the exhaust ports

Something like that. MRC said my engine was proper dirty when they did the clean but there must have been quite a few miles and years between the cleans.

Whilst chatting to the guy remapping the TT track car, he mentioned that water + methanol injection has many benefits (mainly more efficient cooling of compressed air than an intercooler) but one of the benefits is prevention of carbon build up.

I wonder if anyone has tried this on the RS?

Nice one Mike.

Shame he never reported back on that thread whether it made a difference to carbon build up

It's something we looked at in detail-see the threads on AR & AZ. The gains are there but there's better ways to to reduce your IAT's especially on an FI car. High IAT's kill power - you seen this from running logs.

1) Replacing the PCV system with a separate catch can system

2) and install a "Killer Chiller".

You guys in the uk probably don't use your AC much anyways so this is best and easiest way to reduce temps, increase charge density and power output.

They produce a kit for Audi's as well.

Also if you can run E85 that would reduce Carbon deposits.

Aside from CC's having good injectors that flow properly is something a lot of people overlook.
