Right now I'm not sure it is the cooler.

need to see what the connections are for this setup and see what I can do I mean kit car builder do this all the time.
the reason why its not straight forward to get your own lines made up is the fittings that go into the engine block, these are unique to the rs4 and are directly attached to the oem lines. you would need to get lines made up then get a set of the connectors machined for the block, it wouldnt be cheap for a one off.

as a side note i have my car stripped down at the moment and i have had a leak from the connectors in the block it looks like the o rings have perished, not a problem as i am swapping to the jhm lines. also the oem lines use one bolt on each connection to the block even though the block has two threads per connector.

here you can see the connections that go into the block

Sar - only one of the two holes for each connector in the block is threaded for some reason (at least on mine!).
No idea why :audibash:

Looking at Sar's image closely I think I can see threads on all holes???

Sar - just out of interest, why did you go the JHM route and not forge? Is the OEM cooler still ok?

Nice carpet by the way... :biggrin2:

neil the reason i went with jhm and not forge is because hopefully the cooler will be ok, i will cut the nuts off but if the threads are knackered i will weld new ones on.
like you say the oem cooler is made by setrab and is 100% up to the task of cooling the oil you dont need any extra capacity, plus like you id prefer it in the oem location as when i go jhm stage 2 i will need to put another rad in probably right where the forge one would be.

Ok - that makes sense. Agreed - I prefer the OEM cooler location but I guess JHM stage 2 means you need your cooler location totally OEM...

I'm going to have a chat with the guy who imports hot rod parts and see when his next shipment is and see if I can hitch a ride.

The sump had oil from a top up spillage a week or so ago so nothing concrete there. Pipes line were all good the only thing I did last week was the brake pads and they look good and I have no oil lose from the engine oh and the spills have now vanished from the drive.

Not a group buy but each will make there own orders then if I can arrange shipment have them all sent one time to one address to be shipped over.

David, sounds good to me - anything to save a bean or two/shipping...

Not in a desperate rush for mine, but on the 'list' to do before winter set's in.

Cooler - I'll have a chat with Jon Crossland of JC Weld Fab - they are looking at creating a template and pattern for the RS4 oil cooler - top quality fabrication and I'm sure cheaper than OEM. Will keep you posted on that part...

If the fluid is clear have you checked the aux radiators for weeping? They only open when the engine gets above a certain temperature (normally with a bit of hard use) which might explain why you are not seeing a leak all the time.

I would not expect the fluid to smell of oil but that does not mean you should rule it out.

You might also see some vapour coming off them if they are leaking.

How is the coolant level looking?

Low and behold the drl is back several hours after parking up... its not so oily smelling now so will try and look round the aux rad but wwater levels are normal.
