345 bhp deffo sounds like a vac leak somewhere - usual supsect is the airbox one.

if its the one under the manifold may as well get the decoke done at the same time

Well my car has been cleaned,

And is now apparently making just over 440bhp:)

with just the decoke done+ full service, and no vacuum issues,I have not picked it up yet as I am having a few bits done, it was 364 ish on my last post rolling road, so thats nearly 80 bhp gain!!, Im looking forward to try it as that is a massive increase,

Sorry fella, but that is impossible (80 horses from a de - coke)..must have been something vac related to give you three quarters of that....IMO..

Thats what I thought? Its seems too much, I asked did I have VAC issues they said no?
I also had some valve relocated, while they were cleaning the ports, ?
I can only go from what I have been told and my rolling road results.

Start:

388 bhp and 318.1 lb/ft torque at 3903 rpm

After decoke:

406 bhp and 324.4 lb/ft torque at 3748 rpm

After decoke and vac fix:

431 bhp and 328 lb/ft torque at 5873 rpm

So the decoke along gave me 18 bhp gain.
And the vac fix gave you 25bhp gain, so the vacuum problem lost you more power than the coking.

Which gives the better bhp gain per £?
Yes a vac leak fixed will give more bhp per pound than a decode, but only if you have a leak in the first place. If you don't have a leak it is irrelevant. We all have carbon issues though so it still remains one of the best value for money 'mods' we can do. Whether you can feel any difference is another issue but one that is probably valid for any modding.

+1. They must have inadvertently fixed a leak when putting the car back together.

I don't have an airbox any more :) but I just bought VCDS and a vacuum gauge, gonna do a tonne of tests see if I do have a vac leak or some other sort of issue/fault affecting performance.

Every car ever made has carbon issues to a varying degree (whether they are indirect or direct injection or carburetted), but if the effect on performance of a de-coke is small or negligible (as measured by either the 3k-8k test or 1/4 mile time or WHY) then the cost of a de-coke is IMHO money down the drain.

I know many will disagree with that view, but I come from the "ain't broke, don't fix it" school.

My pre / post figures on an MRC de-coke were 370/430 - both results taken on the Banbury RR.
Definitely feel 60bhp :-) Improvements to my engine airflow were outstanding.

Getting mine taken apart and cleaned in the summer, its never been cleaned afaik so should be interesting to see what it's like. I do a lot of town driving which I imagine will mean increased carbon deposits however most days its gets a few trips high up the rev range, no point having it if I don't use it. At 65k I am sure it won't look pretty.

His signature says MRC stage 2 430bhp so it sounds like he has had other work done, be it before or after the decoke I don't know. One things for sure, you wont be getting 430bhp out of a 6 year old RS4 with a standard engine, decoke or not. I suspect if he went from 370 to 430 he had decoke and stage 2 at the same time.

I was speaking to one of the directors on the Terracean stand at the Performance Car show back in Jan. He says they have a new system coming out in June to clean the inlet valve carbon build up. This chap knew exactly the problem with the RS4 and said that they are working hard on the european adapters necessary to introduce the new system. My previous RS4 was cleaned by MRC and there are significant gains to be had, the expense is one thing the other is the hassle travelling, dropping, leaving and picking up your car. I've had the current Terraclean done which cleans other carbon build up in the engine. It works as during the process the revs are set to 1800RPM and rise as the engine cleans, then reset to 1800RPM cleans & rises, repeat etc. My RS4 definitely felt stronger, cost £96 (with 10% received from said chap), I waited only 1 hour and drove off happy. So I'm going to wait until June for Terracleans new process, which I'm sure will be cheaper and quicker.

Got my car back today, and wow what a difference, pulls so much harder, and revs more freely !
Very pleased with Amd's service,
Car made 449.5bhp. which I am very pleased with, the pre rolling road showed 360bhp before decoke and other bits, so I have gained almost 90bhp from some where, and definitely feels alot more powerful to drive,
