It can't, and he didn't :bigblink:

Apologies Dave, it was the "Depress clutch to start engine" warning I was getting confused with.
And it was Dalo.....at least it began with a "D"

Accelerator very sensitive

Noticed a waft of Blue smoke when i moved the car this morning after idling waiting for the cold start revs to drop.
Checked the breather hoses but they seemed ok
What symptoms occur when the oil cyclone breather thingy is on its way out ????

I have seen this problem on a number of cars before and it has always lead to either a throttle position sensor or an egr system fault, now given not on one of these but a V6 Sierra ran smooth as a babies bum when I replaced the tps and a Mondeo V6 did the same when we deleted the EGR system ( blanked it off ). MAF sensors are best replaced as they are reasonably cheap ( compared to smack ) but dont get stuck in the buying replacement parts game cos it dont end quickly !!

Your waft of smoke could just be the engine sat idle for a while ( had you left it standing for a few days ? )

Accelerator very sensitive

Post by ROY » Sun Nov 18, 2012 8:37 pm

No mate
Started up and moved off the drive then left it for about 5 hours cause I had the Meg polisher on the Mrs Beetle sorting out swirls and scratches in the paint.
Got back in the RS when finished, started up - it started with no cold start sequence for some reason so let idle for a few mins then when I pulled away a cloud of blue wafted by.

First job I'm gonna do is pull the plugs and check them out to see if there is any mixture issues.

Just ordered ETKA EPC so will be interesting to identify and see how much some of the RS4 parts really cost using my parts contacts and accounts and compare them to TPS.

In the mean time I've booked my car on Awsome GTi's rollers on Friday to see what it's kicking out, should be interesting - hope the figures are good.

By just starting the car and moving it a short distance and then restarting would make your car smoke on start up, this IMO is normal on the b7

Why would you blank off EGR?

egr systems restrict your engine, they are only there to reduce emissions, for example blanking off the egr system on a Cosworth V6 gives you an extra 15bhp. Obviously you guys havent started to play properly yet, cars are worth too much?? :biggrin3:

Modern EGR systems are not active under load so do nothing to restrict power.
They
- reduce pumping losses so make a big difference to mpg
- reduce emissions
- reduce engine heat
- cool valves

Deleting EGR on modern cars is often misunderstood and won't make any difference to peak power.

Rs4 uses internal EGR which is controlled by valve overlap - good luck getting rid of that!

Maybe Im still abit old schoolm see your point if its internal but I maintain reburning exhaust gasses will restrict any engine surely ?

Reburning exhaust gases will of course reduce power by reducing the oxygen content.

The key part is that EGR is not active all the time (hence why even external EGR systems have a ecu controllable valve).
It is only active under light throttle conditions such as motorway cruising. Apart from emissions, active EGR allows a larger throttle opening for the same engine output - the theory is that the decrease in efficiency from exhaust gases is offset (and sometimes exceeded by) improved engine efficiency from less pumping losses you get from trying to draw air in through a narrow opening on the tb.
Valves run cooler and the combustion flame is slower and more controllable (allowing more timing advance). Ideally you want the flame front speed matched to the piston speed for optimum efficiency.

Once you put your foot down EGR is deactivated so no exhaust gases being burnt so no drop in performance.

Cheers Silas
Was thinking the same bud
No smoke this morning
Ill try the cold start / stop restart again to be sure

Regarding the hesitant issues
I've changed fuel to shell optimax was using Asda (I know I know , stupid boy pike)
I started this morning and sat idling for 5 mins and it was much better

Changed fuel and added Wynes Injector Cleaner for now and gonna pull the plugs at weekend
See how things go

Go ETKA now so been researching some of the RS4 parts inbetween work stuff

MAF
077133471M - Bosch Discontinued - TPS £100.34
Coil Packs
07K905715D - Bosch 0221604113 (Cost from Bosch £15.36) TPS £32.30
Plugs
101905631G - Bosch 0242245576 (Cost from Bosch in packs of x 10 £45.50 per pack = £4.55 each) TPS £12.39

Just a few prices so you can work out the cost of parts before markup etc...

Accelerator very sensitive

No change on cold start by using different fuel
I pretty sure the condensation is part or causing the problem
Could the condensation be overfueling / unburnt fuel - it certainly smells like it.
So is it the map causing the overfueling
S button makes no difference on cold start.
Not using water or oil
Feels like its missing / too rich / struggling to fire on a cylinder or two when it's under load , once the condensation is gone its fine.
