I like the sacrificial socket, proper engineering. lol
Are the bushes easy to do or would you recommend a garage to do it ?
Cheers.

Would love to have my own garage and people have always said i should take it up professionally, but i have never wanted to stray away from my cars being my hobby. I have never made it my line of work in fear of it loosing its spark when doing it every day on other peoples cars and then not being interested in my own. Im in Engineering as a line of work manufacturing Vari axis and Lathe CNC Machines for someone very big in the market. I look at is as im doing my hobby working on the tools yet its not cars i am working on so the motivation is till there when stuff needs to be done on the family cars.

I would recommend you get a garage to do the bushes as they are a pain but its something you could do in a day if you had the press to hand. I wouldn't recommend even thinking about it if you don't have a press. I used at 20 tonne one at work and that struggled to crack a couple :FIREdevil:

The car is all done for now just going to drive it for a couple of weeks to let everything bed in before i finalize the height as its a bit un even at the moment but its a waste of time messing with it to much until it settles. I have 10mm and 8mm spacers on their way to me to make it sit nicer but after seeing the other thread on here im now considering upgrading to the 20" S5 wheels as i like the style of the standard items but they just dont fill the arches quite enough.

New hub carrier arrived at 1pm so i cracked on with getting it all fitted up with the bearing and other bits and getting it on the car. Got the wheels back on and the under tray and got it back on the ground.

Nice work Ben, may consider the Powerflex bushes as a future upgrade on mine.

Seeing that hub carrier is bringing back bad memories of mine failing..

Calipers look great!

Thanks for the advise, total agree with not mixing hobbies with work. :biggrin2:
Did you have your callipers done locally, what was the turnaround time ? Sorry for the question time :boots: but seeing your efforts has inspired me a little to get off my arse and tidy my car up a bit more.

Nice work Ben. I wanted to ask you if you could tell any difference with the bushes but you fitted the KW V3s at the same time so impossible to tell I guess.

Cheers guys :beerchug: Yeah the hub is a nightmare :audibash: Only supposed to be torqued to 40nm though so i bet over tightening is a big factor.

Yes a friend who has his own body shop did them for me i just supplied the logo's and said what colour i wanted. Turn around was about 3 days in total and he has done a good job for what time he had. I was going to do them myself but decided to let him work his magic as it would be a better finish.

Had i known it was going to be off the road so long i would of done a lot more! Carbon clean and pre cats would definitely of been on the list! I think they will be next now followed by a trip to MRC as i have found new love for her.

Its been a month since i have used it so its going to feel like a new car anyway but i will judge the best i can. Should make a nice effect on the steering response i would think as there is less slack in the bushes upon turning in so will notice it there. They are not really that effective in a suspension respect i would say as the shocks do all that work? They are quite free to move in a horizontal motion. The roll bar bushes would make a difference but the rest of them i would say would only sharpen steering with little if any loss to comfort.

Had problems with the car starting or should i say not starting. Only thing i changed that would effect that was the clutch switch. Bit of fiddling and one broken switch do to fitting it wrong. When fitting i pushed the clutch pedal down and fitted it not knowing how it worked internally. Once it had broke i stripped it down to see why and then i could see there was a latch mechanism inside. I have a friend who works for SEAT who can now supply me any parts at cost to them so got him on the case and decided to replace both switches this time.

Got them on Wednesday and fitted and she started first press.

Out with the old and broken

and in with the new.

So happy days! Today i decided to give her a wash to get all this sand we have had off her and take her for a bit of a blast. Nothing to mad only about half hour to try and clean all the disks up from paining them.

disks are cleaning up nicely as you can see. few more miles and they should have more even coverage.

booking the car in tomorrow to Midlands Car Care for a Detail and wheel refub. Also going to book for corner weighting and want to raise the rear and drop the front more to even things out. I have Forge Motorsport spacers on order and i have ordered a replacement battery cover for under the bonnet as some clips are broken on mine and have some Philips D1S bulbs coming too as one of mine still flickers and i need to take the bumper off again shortly.

Hi Ben,
Great write up on the brake refurb. I am doing new rotors front and rear myself at present. When you re-fitted the rotors back onto the hubs, did you put a smear of grease between the two surfaces to stop the rust coming back?

Hopefully the coilovers are a little easier to raise at the back than the KW lowering springs!
Cheers Greg.

Ironically Ben my near side bulb has started flickering in the last few weeks, so new D1S on order and bumper off action pending. Won't buy a ballast this time!

Thank you. Yes i have always used a smear of grease between mating surfaces of wheels and brakes. Dont know if you have ever had a car where you cant get the wheel off because someone decided to miss this small bit of preventive maintenance. I recommend it and it has never caused me any problems. I have always used copper grease behind brake pads too to enure protection to mating surfaces.

The coilovers are the same to adjust as the lowering springs so just as much fun! they dont give you much room to play with do they lol. All my wheels have to come back off any how so its not to much bother.

Yeah after all that fun with ballasts it looks to be a bulb on the blink lol. For the amount i use the car it hasn't caused me that much bother but it is annoying when it starts doing it.

Few goodies have started arriving

Image

2 pairs of spacers and bulbs and battery cover.

Bolts should be here tomorrow for the spacers and i have arranged for a new windscreen to be fitted on Saturday due to stone chips and it De-laminating in some areas close to the edge.

Going to spend saturday morning on it fitting the new bits and playing with suspension before the screen is fitted in the afternoon. Then im off to Early Edition with the Forge lads on Sunday but leaving the car at home so i can have a few shandys! Hoping its a nice day weather wise.

Extended bolts and lockers came yesterday for the spacers so i fitted them all. They are 11mm all around and what a transformation!! Should of followed closely after lowering the car and they make the wheels look bigger and not so lost.
