Re: The story so far...
My bad gents it may well be AWD. This is something i was not aware off and thought they were all RWD being the Super car they are n all and the way my mate hung the back end out on it yesterday on a roundabout also led me to believe it was arse end drive. Taught me something new and the Raging Bull is my dream car too but the likeliness of me being in a position to buy one has took its toll on my knowledge for the beast. All i could concentrate on was the full Tubi system as we accelerated upto three figures and i boosted in my underpants!!

Re: The story so far...
I stand corrected, sort of. My point was that that is a first gen Gallardo (pre-08), and didn't know there was an non-Balboni 550-2 released.coffey555 wrote:Your right, its not! It is a 550-2 Spyder if it is rear wheel drive as stated.
Lambo introduced the 550-2 in both tin top and Spyder form after the Balboni special edition as the entry level car in the range.
And Ben, they're AWD but with a heavy rear bias so can be pushed into tail slides (like an R8).

Re: The story so far...
So car went in for its 8 year 70k mile service.
Put right all the things what was advised on last service thinking, yeah it will just tyres and maybe brakes on the low side. Much to my amazement when they called me and read out the £4000 in faults
Anyway to start with i was handed a nice A6 for a courtesy car which was so nice and i could quite easily get used too

Well onto day 2 and after the service had taken place...
The list

Needless to say i wasn't surprised about the DRC failure. 3 shocks had been replaced 12 months prior to my buying it so it seems the 4th and final shock that was not replaced had finally given up. I always said that if the DRC did ever fail well in my ownership i would replace it with an upgrade so last Tuesday KW V3s were purchased. I will be keeping the standard suspension and will have it swapped back to DRC upon the sale of the car as with a change of shock and a recharge it will be good to go again.

I went to use the cruise control the weekend before the service and it didnt work which pointed at the clutch switch to me and also after that journey the car would not start with a single press of the button and had to be held which confirmed the switch. I advised them of this when the car was dropped off and it was confirmed that it was open circuit via their plug in. I also had a slight nock when gently wagging the steering side to side that had came about a week or so prior which i asked them to check out. That came back with steering rack bolts which again is another obvious one as i knew both ball joints were in good order. When collecting the car i ordered the clutch switch and 3 new steering rack bolts to replace the old ones. The tech at Audi tightened up the rack bolts which have cured the knock but after reading they are stretch bolts i wandered how long it will last so i have decided to replace them...

Took less than 5 minutes to fit for what Audi quoted £100 labour for
I have looked at the rear anti roll bar and a set of powerflex bushes will sort the problem so i will be ordering a set for the whole car well im at it to stiffen things up a bit.
The engine mount i will get on order also but at the moment the issue is just electrical.
2 new tyres will be fitted when the wheels get there freshen up.
My KW's were suposed to be here on Thursday from Germany but still no show. Due to working hours and amount of light i am stuck to doing work on weekends so where i planned to put the car back together this weekend it just was not to be with having no suspension. Had i known i was going to be without it for 3 weeks i would of carried out a carbon clean
Anyway there are other bits that bug me so as i have another week spare i have decided to have all disks skimmed, Calipers and Wheels Refurbed, Gut the precats and fit up the pollybushes when then come. Should get the car back to its former glory and i am going to book it in for a Detail at the start of April to freshen up the paint again for summer.
So today i set about removing all the bits for this weeks work....

and how the car is going to sit for a week looking sorry for itself

Another thing that bugged me when i removed the front calipers was the state of my £300 Ferodo pads
going to get onto them about this as im not happy with the state of them considering they have been road only and have done less than 3000 mile.

Re: The story so far...
Bit of an update
Week has gone fairly well as far as last minute mods go! Suspension came Thursday and brakes were ground and calipers resprayed this week too.
Firstly the suspension...

So got them all fitted up with their top mounts and mounted...

Have a slight issue with one of the rears. Spot the mistake they have made...

Got some caps from work which seal the DRC lines nicely so i greased inside them and fitted them on so there is no contamination should the DRC setup be fitted again...

Brakes got advised to be replaced on next pad change by Audi so checked the sizing and they were all well within tolerance
Decided to grind them at work so they are nice and fresh again and there are no lips any more. Also painted the veins and bells on the rear so there is no more rust present and when they wear the non contact surface area of the pads wont rust...

Sat next to the 15" wheels on my track car! They are some beasts these front rotors!

Also my calipers came back yesterday from being resprayed in the same colour code as the Ceramic Calipers. They look spot on but there was a lack of communication with my body shop which meant that the red part of the logo was not fitted. This is being rectified and they will have another coating of clear coat after.

They were also finished off with Stainless bleed nipples courtesy of Hosetecnik. Cant wait to get them on.
So just a case of rectifying the rear shock and fitting it up then fitting calipers along with bleeding them and can put the car back on all 4 wheels.
Going to have the car Hunter aligned and corner weighted also to make sure i get full potential out of the Varient 3's. I set them up to 6 bump 7 rebound clicks as to one of Sonny's old posts with what he was recommended

Re: The story so far...
Got my V3s on a couple of weeks ago, set the rebound to the softest setting and left bump on default, not sure what the default setting is actually... 4?
Can't remember as I don't have the manual to hand, is it the higher the number the harder the setting or the other way around?
They ride great, just need to get my alignment done again now.

Re - steering bolts.
£357?!? - I've had it done by a dealer and they charged just one hour labour. There is nothing required to strip them down. Given that the bolts are standard b7 units the fact they can't see them is worrying.
Also they are single use stretch bolts. You are not supposed to re tighten but replace.

All the one I've had on various cars have been a higher number for a harder setting
Re: The story so far...
great work, calipers look smart, what colour are you doing the rears?
Re: The story so far...
Sonny quoted his were on a medium setting at 6 and 7 so went for that as i know he was pretty hot on the cars handling being for track. If its good for that man then its good for me and fast road. It can be adjusted if I'm not happy one Sunday morning anyhow.CellDamage wrote:Got my V3s on a couple of weeks ago, set the rebound to the softest setting and left bump on default, not sure what the default setting is actually... 4?

Default settings are Front bump 5 clicks rebound 6 clicks and Rear bump 6 rebound 12 all from closed.
Listers are known for trying to have peoples pants down so it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying their luck. They tightened them and the knocking has gone away! I informed them that they were stretch bolts and ordered them when i picked the car up. I had to take the scuttle panel off to take the struts off the car so well i was in there i fitted the new bolts! They were £2 each and are shown aboveadsgreen wrote:Re - steering bolts.

Re: The story so far...
Did some more this afternoon.
Brakes now all fitted and bled.

Got the wheels back on and got her back on the ground! Just roughly set everything the same to my old setup for now! Going to give it a few weeks to settle and see where we are with it. Got to take 1 rear shock into work tomorrow for a minor adjustment then will get it on and she can go on all fours.

Some pictures of the brakes

Have the intake off at the moment too for more heat shielding to try and sort my MAF issues once and for all. Going to box in the manifold so no heat rises to the MAF housing and going to Gold wrap the MAF housing to create a barrier against heat in the bay.

Re: The story so far...
Few more pictures to update. Been working a lot of hours and juggling with daylight and parts suppliers. Was hoping to have it back on the road last week but a broken hub carrier put a stop to that! New one being delivered today....

Had a fight with the hub bolt and not having a 17mm hex bit. Halfords only had a sump plug tool with 17mm fitting but was on 3/8's fitting which is no good when your trying to undo something around 300nm. So had a think and sacrificed a old socket and cracked out the welder which did the trick.

But i have got all my Powerflex bushes fitted...

and finally got the red bit of the RS logo all fitted up to finish off the calipers...

More as it comes

Looking very good, have you considered opening your own garage just for RS4's.
I like the sacrificial socket, proper engineering. lol
Are the bushes easy to do or would you recommend a garage to do it ?
