Hey mate! its wrapped in this stuff

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Design-Engine ... 20d562503f

from reading gold seems to be the best type of material to reflect heat! its expensive but you get what you pay for. as said sonny had done the same to his! my intake temps are really good on the move but you heat soak at a stand still but its a tight sealed compartment and the heat will get everywhere so not something you can stop! mine is complimented by the CAI

I haven't spoken to Grizz no why?
ben im real interested in what forge come up with for us for a replacement cooler and lines, im on 65,000 now and mines starting to look crusty i want it changing asap but dont fancy going oem again.

i see jhm have released some upgraded oil lines, some good pics of our <beep> standard lines.

As said i will make a thread of its own once complete to gain more interest but im on the Forge stand at Edition 38 at the end of the month with it fitted and one will be on a display plaque next to the car for anyone who wants a closer look

Mine look really good at the moment but its preventive maintenance as i see it so may as well catch it before it happens.

I have been updated a couple of days ago that the cooler will be a similar size but does have slightly bigger fins so should be better at its job they are currently in the process of making the bracketry to hold it along with the power steering cooler to its original mounting points and the fittings for the engine have been drawn up and the aluminum billet has been purchased they are just waiting on some machining time to get them made as they are flat out production wise. The setup will use dash fittings as shown in that link along with quality hose! I fully trust Forge with what they have planned at they know what they are doing when it comes to designing a product that works!

I have just installed the Revolution intake and my temps are running slightly higher than with the OEM air box. Going to tape up the underneath like Ben has here. We will see if it will bring it down a little. Next step is sonnys heat sheild!
You need the CAI if you haven't got one to have any chance of getting cooler air into the intake. I'm pretty certain that wrapping the intake and adding heatshields will make almost no difference with the Revolution/GruppeM intake since it's open to the engine bay. I can see it might make a difference with the stock airbox (plus CAI) since that would be almost sealed from the engine bay so (a) you're not sucking in hot air that's circulated round engine/headers and (b) you're shielding some of the radiated heat away from the body of the airbox so the container itself stays relatively cool when standing.

For cool intake air use WMI - it works perfectly for this and costs considerably less than the revolution intake!

Interesting Post Tony. Thank you for the info. Its great to have a multitude of posts / advice in order for us to be guided. I guess, as you say a CAI is fundamental in order to allow any induction kit to stand a chance of being effective. From what I have read over the past 2 weeks it appears that the revolution kit provides awesome sound / induction roar. AFAIK the GruppeM does a similar job but at almost twice the cost (correct me if I am wrong) What I am not seeing is any performance gains with either kit so its begs that question if its better to simply stick a K&N (or an-other) panel filter in together with a CAI. I have purchased a Revolution kit....looks the Canine Spherical's and having heard a RS4 with one fitted provides porn type sound! To date I have not heard any adverse reports from the guys that are running either the revolution or GruppeM kit that have had MRC work on their cars....I stand to be corrected but just trying to be pragmatic with this as it is to me quite a subjective debate

Yep, there aren't any gains to be had with these kits (not that anyone has been able to show anyway) - but there are some potential losses since they are both open to the engine bay. It all depends what you want.

If I was after out-and-out performance (and didn't really care what it sounds like) then I'd keep the stock airbox - do what I can to prevent radiated heat by coating it with heat resistant reflective stuff, use a free flowing filter like you suggest, add CAF and remove the airbox flap. That would cost next to nothing.

*Edit*: there is one slight benefit in terms of a slightly sharper throttle response, feels much more "on the ball" to me.

How much of the Reflect-A-Gold-Heat tape did ya order? is 1 x 1-1/2 x 15ft enough to do the job?

Hi Ben, Ive tried sending you this in a PM but I cant get onto your page for some reason(i cant get on any members page). During your log on page http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... &start=120 i was looking through your photos and noticed that the crash bumper bar on your car seems to be dented at both sides like it is on mine. Do you know if this is normal? I was worried that my car had been crashed previously but having looked at yours it seems it must be part of the design. Do you know anything about this?

Cheers

Silver reflects heat better than Gold, but Gold is lighter hence why its used.
