OK, for those who are going I have managed to install VAG-COM on my laptop so theoretically I can do the headlight change. Quick question for VAG-COM users though, when downloading the USB driver I'm getting a untested software warning. It's a work machine so has anyone had issues with the USB driver software as I don't want it to crash my work machine?

I've ignored the warnings and everything's always been fine - and that's on a Mac running Bootcamp, so should be even less risk on native Windows

Have a great trip, and well done for taking on the logistical nightmare!

So caldy and I have arrived at Nurburg. Sounds like the others though have not had such a great time, kr's car is on a flatbed somewhere in Brussels with a broken steering rack so we have a casualty already and he hand his other half are now hitching a lift with pad125.

Will update when everyone is together but the drive down here from Holland was incident free and some good twisty roads.

KR is gutted to say the least. At present he is on his way to pick up his hire car. Everything retail wise is just about shut on Sunday so his car won't get looked at until tomorrow so won't know for sure what exactly went wrong. The mechanic didn't even have a look at it, just put it on the flatbed.

On the plus side we have just come back from some time around the Ring. It's wet but that means the track is pretty quite but massively slippery, best time 10:13 before it chucked it down. Hoping caldy has some footage of a lap in my car and one in his to put up if the bullet cam has worked.

mac4RS went to all the trouble (20 mins) of changing his tyres to his blinging red alloyed semi slicks and the track is so damp they are stone cold.

Some very nice cars there, it also appears to be a breeding ground for M3 CSL's We think Varsity is here as well, or at least there is a GT-R with plate VAR 517Y sitting outside our hotel. Can anyone remember if he has a GT-R?

Top day had, 1/3 of a tank of Shell 100RON (at 1,65 Euro per litre! ) used and my sea legs from the ferry crossing are just kicking in! Off to have a beer and some scran.

Good time there mate. how many laps did you do, when do you leave the Ring? Its a shame I don't have the contact details, I know this chap who has his own workshop who used to be a quattro tester in the Midlands he works in Wimbach (15 min drive from the GP stand). Regarding the steering rack I wonder if one of the nuts had come loose and caused further damage, I had similar trouble with mine, early 06 cars suffer from it apparently.

If you have mega probs out there, the guy who runs this B&B should be able to put you into contact with the guy from Wimbach http://www.ringhaus.com/
