The bit I find really annoying is that this is trivial to diagnose with vag com - hell, the obvious thing to do is read the logs, store them and clear the codes and see what happens.

customer service:
hook up the computer while the customer waits
read the code
see if it tells you something easily fixed, fix it if you have the part(s)
if not clear it and drive the car, if it comes back, keep it, if not perhaps just a 'glitch'

osf?
is the left side (as travelling)?
on this wheel is a level sensor, linked to suspension and body, so if the car starts to get a weird attitude it is sensed
also used for headlight leveling in BMW's, maybe it's connected to TC?

also one on the right rear

Off side front so in rhd cars would be the right side of the car in direction if travel.

Exactly - having a customer 1) without their car, 2) with a precious courtesy car for the sake of a quick look, scan and reset seems crazy to me.

(BTW - love you too ;-))
VaginaCUM isn't helping, zero codes on the ABS module or any wheel speed sensors but there have been codes on varying WSS previously. Currently it's remaining inconsistent, 3 drives in 5 have the TC and ABS lit up on the dash... again, no codes left to look at.

Not the same car though.

sometimes with metallic pads the filings/dust get magnetized and adhere to the wheel sensor (basically a proximity switch that generates pulses)
this debris will degrade their operation
try cleaning them with brake cleaner or electronic cleaner (rinse with water when done)
do the electrical connectors too with electronic cleaner

while your at it look at the hub, usually some teeth or metal inserts that get counted by the sensor
hit those with a scrubby if they have any rust on them
