Does anyone know the part number for the guide sleeve on the input shaft? Apparently this part has been modified by Audi so if I can draw their attention to this I may get somewhere?!

i had read this somewhere aswell but i asked my parts man at my local TPS and as far as he could tell from the computer the part number has never changed or been superseded.
i can dig the part number out for you if you want as i still have mine, but i now dont think that the guide sleeve is causing the problem.

i suffered from the sticky down-slow returning clutch pedal problem and grizz at unit20 has just fitted a loba clutch and flywheel to mine to cure the problem.
i had bought the loba clutch-kit a new guide sleeve and release bearing, but on stripping mine down grizz said the guide sleeve was in mint condition no marks or grooves so didn't change it.

mine seems like its fixed now so it was either the - flywheel? - clutch plate? - pressure plate? - release bearing?.
i have never fitted a new clutch return pipe or changed either the master or slave cylinders.

what did the interior of the release bearing look like?

it looks like 2 types were used

seems like hydraulics have been eliminated
seems like the release bearing guide bushing has been eliminated

that leaves the clutch, perhaps when hot the springs get weaker and can't snap back, and push the slave cyl piston back
perhaps the clutch release bearing hangs up, not allowing the clutch to fully return

http://elsaweb.spaghetticoder.org/doc/A ... 25757427/3

looks like wear on the release bearing can be an issue

here's the guide sleeve (can't tell if it's the old or new one)

no hold down screws, looks like it will float/rotate, perhaps the revise part is bolted down?

some have said this fixed the problem

after looking at it there is a clip that retains it, but perhaps it still spins

most look like this

Grizz, do you recall which one was in the did the clutch for?
the 2 part, sleeve with clip
or the 1 piece with the bolted flange
???

I'm not sure which is the old type vs new type
this car had a sticky clutch, the bearing was hanging up on this guide sleeve

I have spoken to someone at MRC and he hadn't heard of the guide sleeve problem, but has changed lots of clutch return pipes (Part No. 8E0721465) for the same problem and this seems to cure it. As this is an easyish job I will try this first then go to the input shaft guide sleeve if it doesn't work.

I would also raise a case with Audi customer care.
Mainly to ask where you stand warranty wise as you've reported the issue inside warranty period

As I said, I have already taken it to Kidlington Audi and they tell me there is nothing wrong with it, obviously I'm just making it up for a laugh, and enjoy driving to Kidlington in the rush hour! To be honest if the clutch return pipe fixes it which is a small job then Ill just get it done at my partners dads garage. If however it turns out its the guide sleeve then ill wait until the Inchcape warranty kicks in which means I can take it anywhere to be fixed, and get it done then.....

I had the hose changed by the dealer
also new slave
fluid flushed
and heat shield/sleeve on the line

still happens, a bit less, but repeatable
if I rev the engine in neutral a few times, it will do it

Thats a good bit of info - worth trying as you'll be able to show an Audi tech easily.

Have you had the input shaft guide sleeve done?
