Though when i worked for BMW the E65 7 series charged 1.5 hours to change the headlamp bulb
Agreed - I'd fully support the EU getting off their arse and making an automotive rule thats worthwhile for a change in specifing all bulbs should be changable at the roadside with tools supplied and without removing any other major components.

I do find it laughable that in some EU countries you have to carry a full load of spares... and yet most people can't really use them without access to a workshop!

It's a consequence of the B6 to B7 facelift having been lead by stylists instead of engineers. On a B6 you can slide the headlamp out by just loosening 2 screws, but that was lost in the B7 bumper/grille facelift.

Cheers Dave, I didn't know this. Upgraded both my side lights ages ago after one failed, took my time doing it, one of the bulb holders had been snapped previously. Headlight wise I've thankfully not had to do my xenons, but I did a workmates late B6 TDi 1.9 and took about 40 minutes. He dropped the plastic backing of the headlight down into the innards of the undertray after I'd got the bulb and metal clip back in!
