My friends know me as somebody who used to change cars quite often, I was never happy and always looking for something a bit better. I've been through a few BMW's (E60 M5, E46 M3 and a tuned up 335i) before I came across the RS4 in December 2010.
From day one I just got this feeling that this car was here to stay and 14 months later I still love driving it.
I've made a few mods which do help, had the wheels changed from black to silver, cleaned out the manifold and then recently added a Milltek non-res with valves. Updated all the lights to LED's, had the paint sorted out and a few other bits.
I reckon I've spent around £6,500 on it in the time I've had it, tied in with depreciation I've probably lost quite a bit but nothing like I would have lost if I'd sold and 'upgraded' to something else.
I look at the market now and there isn't a single car I would realistically swap it for. A mate of mine has an 09 M3 convertible, he's trading it in around March time and he said "they'd do you a good deal on it", I just laughed and said "I don't want to downgrade thanks".
I do think modding is the future for current RS4 owners but there's a fine line as you might need to undo things if you ever decide to sell.
Fitting a Milltek - always keep the old one.
Don't gut your existing pre-cats, get some new pipes and keep the existing ones.
While you can spend a lot of money on mods you would also get a lot of it back later down the line by returning the car to stock before selling and flogging off all the bits.

Thanks, having workable options is a good thing.
One of the down sides I've been thinking of with having something "prettier" is that I might be less inclined to take it out in crappy weather, which does defeat the purpose of quattro of course
