a different gear won't help.
I don't want I higher top gear to get more spe3ed, I want it for when I'm cruising. 6th on the RS4 is good from 20mph to 170mph, which IMHO is silly.

I would like a 7th gear that's closer to 30 or even 35mph per 1000rpm just for relaxed "mile eating" on the European autbahn, autoroute, autostrada, WHY,...

I agree, dropping rpm by ~15% (either another gear or a different ratio) would be nice when cruising at 75 (3100 to 2600 or so) still plenty of torque

but it is impressive, get the thing rolling in 2nd, shift to 6th at 20 and gently squeeze the juice and you're on you way to 150+

Yeah, just a tad lower would be nice.
Vxr8 was 1800 rpm at 70... 6.2 litres though:)

Despite all calculations and fancy math you want to do, I have had my car to 192 on the speedometer which was 188 on the GPS. Flat road, near sea level, cold, 91 Octane, JHM tune, Milltek exhaust, Piggy Downpipes, LWFW, Lightweigth rotors.

Lwfw probably will hurt top end - if you think about it the drag forces on the car will be massive (around 420bhp ;)) and this is applied constantly whereas the engine only produces a power impulse 4000 times / sec. Between pulse the drag will be slowing the car and a lwfw will have less inertia to offset this.

Also top speed isn't fixed at max power. Just because power is falling doesn't mean it's less than that required to overcome total drag... Otherwise you'd never be able to accelerate past 7500 in any gear ;)

Your speedo is incredibley accurate to be reading just 4mph out as such high speed!

I'd expect around around 10mph difference at that speed over GPS and law dictates your given 10% leeway so 19 mph !

There is a YouTube video of an RS4+map topping out at 187mph GPS.

I revise my estimate, downwards
using a surveying grade GPS my car with oem tires does 23 mph / 1000 rpm (the OBC is very accurate btw)
so 8000 would be 184 mph, but slip would increase >1%, so 182 at 8000, but isn't rpm limited to 7800 in upper gears? (makes sense since power peak is 7600 or so)
7800 ~ 178 mph...
so I'd be surprised if a stock (other than delimited) car could do 180...then again, 180 is pretty damn fast :D

There is no limiter in the top gears except 8250rpm from experience Arthur.

thanks, did not know that...trying to find where I thought I read it...
8250 (if it could pull to that in 6th) would be ~ 186-188 or so

Last time I hit 300kph on the speedo the rpm was only at just under 7500rpm and I had to back out as there was a lorry that pulled out onto the outside lane about half a mile in front of me.

My bog standard Avant went to GPS 167 mph or something like that. Speedo was 170+

Each and every time the oppertunity allowed, it would keep accelerating, then you could noticeably feel the power be limited. Incidently, it was bang on 7000 rpm in 6th.

Sister in law lives in Germany, so have done multiple trips and seen this on many occasions
