Mine was at 398ps (corrected engine power) at 52K miles and has never had a de-coking done on it.

would you consider buying an RS4 that never had decoke done? just spoke to MRC and it's not exactly cheap. they say they can do a health check and check the values on the dyno, and by that get a rough idea as to whether the car needs cleaning or not.
what's the good PS range a 40K miles RS4 needs to have before worrying about decoke? at least 400?
Every car will be different - I think alot depends on how it has been driven - motorway and urban is not good for the carbon build up.

If you dyno it at MRC and have 390+ I wouldn't bother with the clean TBH.

Having been a B7 RS4 owner I wouldn't be dissuaded from buying another B7 if it hadn't had a decoke but I would if the driver had never spun it up to 8K, at the very least whenever he drove it.

That said, the FIRST thing I'd do if I bought the 2nd hand vehicle WOULD be to get it decoked, ported and remapped. I'd also buy the vehicle with the lowest mileage possible that also met with my criteria cosmetically.

You have an extremely capable vehicle at that point.

However, without wishing to ignite the Datsun debate, I'd probably get a GTR first.

Not had mine dyno'd yet to check power and possible coking as it only had 17500 miles on when I got it last year. If I drive for a while sedately and then give it some stick I do initially get a small blast of black soot out!!

Its been said before, "a redline a day, keeps the carbon at bay" :) (said tongue in cheek)

MMmmmm may as well add my 2p worth....

What about fuel? Theres only two pumps I really visit either Shell for V-power or Tesco 99.

Both have a 99 octane rating, I don't bother with anything else. Have tried the BP stuff, just found it made my car run hotter? although that was a turbo.

actually the main one I am looking at now has milltek (who I have an issue with as I have nowhere to stock the OEM exhaust) and APS map which I am tempted to keep

what is the "porting" about?

20K per annum.....
so 70k miles?! (edit)

that is even more impressive for how little there is, imo

Arthur are you honestly saying the muck in that engine is not an issue, and is not directly related to how poor the figures were on the dyno?

car wasn't just cleaned though so hard to be scientific about what power gain was attributed to and we know how Art likes to be scientific :D

IIRC, I was taking 9.0-9.5 secs for the 3k-8k run. Am now taking 7.9 secs.
