hehe i do something similar with jeans and shoes... but never thought about it with carsvictor2vt wrote:Went to Silverstone for the launch of the R8
Drove the RS4, as said LOVED the aggresive low slung stance, the looks from all angles, the flared arches, the alloys, the acceleration, the brakes, the interior, the driving position, the fabulous comfy recaros, the exhaust noise, the fabulous Sprint blue paint finish, a car you can drive at 30 mph or 120 mph and the engine is always as smooth as silk, the safety features and as for me, i'm very, very happy with the car's performance in standard form, i hope i'm not tempting fate, but i've had no problems at all and i honestly can't fault anything with this car. Wish i'd bought 2 and put one in air conditioned storage to use when my current one arrives at the scrapyard.
Why did YOU buy your RS4?

Was sold on quattro afer buying a B5 S4 that I had for 4 years. Like wise the RS4 was a dream car for me from when it was first launched. Show me a realistic alternative for every day use and to carry mountain bikes, dive gear or skis year round on Highland roads? Tend to keep my cars 3 to 4 years anyway but will probably have this longer
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Why did YOU buy your RS4?
2 reasons for me:
1st was after watching that episode of Top Gear where JC raced the two climbers to the top of the mountain.
He only mentions price at the end of the clip so that dream was shattered immediately.
2nd reason is similar to Northernpar's - who I've just noticed is a fellow Aberdonian - and thats the progressive next step theory.
Had worked my way through the hot hatch era in my early 20's with the Corrado G60 and Escort RS Turbo. Graduated to 4x4 Cosworth and finally the Escort Cossie once I reached the magical age of 25 when insurance is no longer an issue.
The Escort was far from standard so after I sold that I needed to find a car with equivalent or better performance.
Looked at the usual suspects like the M3, Noble, TVR, Porsche etc but none of them ticked all the boxes. Having spent a good 5 years with 4x4 in the snow I knew the next car had to have AWD in some format or another AND have a reliable 350Bhp+ with the practicality of being able to hold stuff in the boot.
Cue recently watching that clip from Top Gear on Youtube again coupled with RS4 prices becoming much more affordable now they've taken their initial depreciation hit and the rest as they say is history!

I have a rule which means the car replacing the outgoing one must have more horsepower.
Swapped the S2 for a RS4.
Being a biker I was initially disappointed....I thought a 400hp car would be quicker.
That said, it blew the 996TT I was looking at into the weeds in terms of what I could get for the money.
Almost 3 years down the line, the car is a monster in terms of its capability, be it blasting around mid-Wales, hooning it down the autobahn, navigating the Col de Montets, transporting snowboard/dive gear/MTB's...
I'm quite convinced that even though I have a more powerful B5 S4, the B7 RS4 may well be the best car I ever own.
But I do understand what journalists now mean when they talk about uber capable cars also being slightly un-involving...
I'm not sure the RS4 makes you a better driver because the car itself is so capable.

agree with many of the comments above.. for me it was
1) great interior comfort / build quality / aesthetics
2) classy exterior styling which is slightly understated ( a good thing)
3) terrific sounding V8 (esp with the milltek and sport button depressed)
4) fantastic secure handling in the dry / wet / snow
5) very very fast yet comfortable and lots of fun to drive
6) good value for money at around the 30k mark
7) personally preferred it to the 997 C2S and E92 M3 coupe after driving all
everyday useability, great all rounder

I went to buy a 3.2 a3 and took one look at the RS4 in the showroom and fell for it. I think it's a practical car and is a "wolf in sheeps clothing".
I love the sound, the comfort and the handling.
Last year I had a crash (aquaplaned on a dual carriageway and hit a steel lamppost and lost a leg). After 3 months in hospital I was ready to start driving again. Went shopping and couldn't find anything that floated my boat. So.... I bought another RS4 - avant this time - and loving it. I drive like a Pansy in the wet now though.

I remember reading about this and seeing the photos in the EE. Glad you got out alive though, IIRC the car was a proper mess with the lamp post pretty much in the cabin of the car?lma07 wrote:Last year I had a crash (aquaplaned on a dual carriageway and hit a steel lamppost and lost a leg). I actually work with somebody who knows you!
L Maver? I mentioned about looking for an RS4 just a few weeks ago and she said she knew someone who owned one was in a big accident recently; I managed to guess which she was talking about before she got round to saying it.
Good to hear you're getting right back in amongst it though

+1 on the Top Gear episode!!
I saw that and wanted one immediately - I only got mine in December though. Compromised a year earlier and bought a TT-S...good fun but I wish I never compromised!! RS4 is the most awesome car I've been in - wouldn't swap it for the world just now
I started reading this forum yesterday & was quite surprised to see so many threads with people not happy with their RS's!

Fell in love with the RS brand when the RS2 came out, and then the 4' and 6'(phenomenal power). when it was time to buy, I purchased the B7 RS4 saloon, came close to getting the Avant, but seeing as I wanted to track the car on a regular bases I went for the saloon, also the saloon has a bigger boot than the Avant, so I was sold.
Over 2 years of great ownership and hopefully many more years, I wont be selling any time soon, unless it to upgrade to another RS model.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Why did YOU buy your RS4?
I tried one at Silverstone about a year ago and wanted one ever since.
Bought mine in Jan in the middle of the snow, and love it.

Believe me, there are more people happy with them on here than not, just the usual psycholigical thing that bad news spreads and travels fastest and as a nation we are not great at bigging up when things are good.Jazza1984 wrote:+1 on the Top Gear episode!!

The RS4 is the only car I've owned in nearly 35 years of car ownership that I've still loved to drive every day after more than a few months or even weeks of ownership. I've had mine since July 2006 and STILL look for the "scenic route" home - did exactly that this afternoon as it was sunny, and I arrived home grinning like a Cheshire Cat. Seeing a Mark I Jaguar E-Type in wonderful condition was a great bonus too!
This car is just awesome.
