Wynn's make a special fuel additive and inlet aerosol for GDI/FSI engines - both of which are recommended by Mitsubishi, who have had GDI engines in volume production longer than any other car manufacturer.

I tried them about a year ago, and did notice an improvement in smoothness, flexibility and fuel "economy" after using them.

Yes I have heard good things about the Wynn products. The reason I went with the other product was because of the recommendation from the master tech. £20 is neither here or there, so I did ask if I could use it every 10 tankfuls say. (2k miles approx), and he said No. Every 8k miles was the recommended interval.

PD, do you know the "ingredients" on the Audi tunap product?. :?

Found this link to it on the TUNAP website http://www.tunap.com/en/ranges/automoti ... /p173.html

And the safety datsheet at http://www.tunap.com/datasheets/TUNAP_e ... 0300AB.pdf mentions:

Naphtha (petroleum), hydrotreated heavy
Solvent naphtha (petroleum), heavy arom.
propan-2-ol
2-methylpropan-1-ol
Methyl-tert-butyl ether
naphthalene, pure
1,2,4-trimethylbenzene

Hold on a min...is it being suggested that this will get rid of carbon on ours valves??? If so how can that be when the video shows the cleaner "washing" over the tops of the valves??? Our injectors "inject" direct to the cylinder dont they???

They do - which is why Wynns offer a 2 part solution, a fuel additive toclean the injectors and an aerosol that you spray into the inlet manifold to help with any deposits up to and including the valves.

Personally I don't see how a fuel additive can be much help with the inlet area - unless there is enough "blow back" to get a significant amount of the fuel additive into the inlet manifold.

I put some Redex injector cleaner into mine at the weekend and its had some pretty pleasing effects. Firstly thing I noticed was huge amount black smoke out of the rear on the first couple of 2nd gear redlines followed by a gutteral exhaust note that I havent heard in quite some time. It now produces the pop/bang/spit noise I remember in the first few hundred miles of getting 100cel cats fitted. Secondly, a definite uptick in the oomph especially lower down in the rev range and more savagery further up.

On the first few start-ups there was carbon spat all over whatever is behind the exhausts and they themselves get quite black not surprisingly.

I am now expert but it feels to me that whatever is in the injector cleaner has cleared out some crap built up not just on the injectors but also in the cats or exahust system (possibly via unburnt cleaner on the overrun). Obviously it gets no where near the inlet so never going to help there.

Pleasing outcome overall and will definitely use this once a month.
