Ok, so was spacers an option or came part of the SS+ package, if so are these available as from Audi?

Spacers were not part of the SS+ package, and neither does Audi offer them

so why wudl he say the brochure states 10mm spacers to be used?...I take it when thecar is lowered it effects the camber and the spacers are there to counter act this?

If you read his reply, he says that the brochure states a 10mm drop (lowering) for the SS+ system, not 10mm spacers

Would need to check for SS+ price.

10 mm spacers

Post by caldy » Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:39 pm

Not sure that 10mm spacers on the front are suitable for all circumstances. The popper retaining the wheel arch inner liner used to foul on the outer edge of the tyre under severe compression. Skimming the spacers to 8 mm solved the fouling.

At the risk of incurring great wrath, I'm going to suggest that widening the track is not desirable, notably at the front.

It will affect the scrub radius (the difference between the point on the ground at which the vertical centreline of the wheel and the projection of the steering axis touch). In this case reduce the negative scrub radius which has the likelihood of reducing stability considerably under braking or cornering on uneven surfaces.

I've only raised this as i read somewhere that a few folks were complaining of their cars feeling slightly skittish with spacers.

Adding spacers to any car is IMHO not a great idea - it increases the load on the wheel bearings by increasing the moment on them by moving the wheel further away. So using spacers is likely to lead to increased bearing wear and decreased life.

I certainly remember seeing quite a few cars by the roadside in the 70's and 80's with the wheel detached due to bearing failure - mostly cars with spacers added.
