Don't worry about it, you can mock his 'cool' shades and Bluetooth headset...

Although we appear to have got the wooden spoon in the performance measurements (quite by how much we'll find out), it still isn't embarrassing to be beaten by a lighter coupe and a significantly more powerful saloon, both of which are newer.

I would still bet they conclude the RS4 is the best all-rounder. I'd love to see the merc and M3 use any of their performance in the current UK weather :kissmyrings:

Absolutely!

No mention of the fact that the Audi is better built than either of them? (& better looking too IMHO)

TBH, I think JC is a bit of a merc fan anyway, he's had several, even though he would agree that they're not the best made of the big 3.

I still can't believe (and it's not just Audi bias) how UGLY BMW's are!!! Well engineered I know, but just plain UGLY!

Just wait and see what the next RS4 will do to these 2 - they will both be playing catch up AGAIN! :thumb:

RS4 = Pwned! Back to the usual last place. Cor! That C63 looks mighty tempting. I can't wait to test-drive one.

That's such rubbish. RS4 engine is good, but nothing spectacular. There are way better engines out there. M3, Scuderia, Ferrari V12s, GT3 flat 6, CSL I6, AMG 6.2, Z06 Vette V8, Honda's wheed wackers, BMW V10s etc.

RS4 engine does not rev that freely and has average response, revving beyond 7000rpm, it sounds strained and doesn't really seems to begin losing power. The sound is merely average with lot's of direct injection whine.

The ride is good, I'll give Jeremy that.

Don't know about the better built. Prior to my RS4 I had 2 E46 M3s and a Z4 M coupe none of which were near a garage between scheduled visits. My RS4 (4,500 miles) has been in 3 times before oil leak finally fixed and stll have to get the full lock grunching noises fixed. Love the car but very disappointed at reliability.

Like I said over on rs6.com why does RussianM3_dude own an RS4 when all he does is dis it?

He's got to be a complete idiot to have spent over £50K on a car he doesn't like and then not sell it as soon as he realises he doesn't like it.

RussianM3_duded - sell your RS4 NOW and go spread your venom elsewhere....

BTW Top Gear tested the cars at a track in Spain according to the Xmas edition of Radio Times.

BTW (2) I've had NO reliability problems whatsoever with my RS4, 1 service and 1 return visit to get poor workmanship by the dealer who did the service sorted.

If you guys are dissapointed, to which I am not, we have a superb allround performance car. ride quality, safety, performance, sound, aesthetics, handling etc... However, why not wait and see what the B9 RS4 will have. IT will <beep> on the M3 and Merc. Go audi GO!!!

I am away on holiday that week, thanks for the Info "the Axe", nice to see the RS still holding it's own, I do like the AMG 63 though, but the economy is sposed to be horendous.

By that time, the new M3 will come out as well as a C63Black or something.

I guess it's a matter of opinion as "best" isn't exactly a strict criteria set. I think it's a real achievement that Clarkson, who has extensive experience of all of the cars you mentioned still rates the Audi V8 as his favourite.
