I have also experienced very jerky 1st to 2nd changes but have put this down to my lousy driving.

Two other issues which may suggest this is a clutch switch problem:

a) when engaging the clutch (ie. lifting the pedal), right at the top of the travel, I sometimes (but not always) get a sort of judder as the power is applied to the wheels. It's very subtle but it's as if the power is being stepped up gradually. Strange feeling and rather irritating. Perhaps my clutch is on the way out.

b) cruise control doesn't work - nothing happens when I fiddle with the controls.

Off to a stealer... Are clutches covered under warranty?

Cheers,
Mark

Sorry for bumping this!

I've now got exactly the same problem. Noticed that my cruise control wasn't working. Then when I next came to start the car, found I had to hold the switch until the engine fired. Haven't noticed any other symptons but the problem only started happening yesterday so I haven't really looked yet.

CLioDriver - was yours fixed OK in the end?

I'm booked in to have some other work done in a couple of weeks so hopefully they can fix this at the same time, but I assume it's OK to carry on driving it like this for the next couple of weeks ...

Almost certainly the clutch position sensor, I diagnosed it with VCDS.

I was told it was ok to drive but you might get fed up with the "kangaroo petrol" effect.

Replaced under warranty in about 30 mins.

Cheers, Yorkie.

Guess I'll get the wife to drive it so it'll put her off using it in future ...!

ClioDriver wrote:Yes, this is definitely a nice feature.

However, yesterday when I started my RS4, the button started to behave quite differently. I briefly pressed the button as usual and starter motor started turning. But as soon as I released the button, the starter motor stopped.

This kept happening. If I hold the button down, it's fine - the engine turns and fires as usual.

Anybody else had this issue?

maybe, sort of...the US cars have the same function using the key...momentary hold and release and it cranks until it 'fires'...

mine stopped doing it...also the cruise stopped working and when I depressed the clutch rpm's wouldn't fall...drop slugglishly
in additon to having to 'hold' the key to start

clutch switch: pn 8E0 927 189 B
10 minute swap out, the lower one (engaged when clutch is depressed, NOT the one when released)
3 screws for kick plate (one hidden in the fuse panel)
disconnect switch
push, rotate and remove switch
reverse to install
I brushed some lithium grease on the pedal pivots while up in there, lol

$30 plus 5 minutes...mine is under warranty but this was faster...
no leaving the car, multiple trips, etc.
I told the parts guy, so he charged me for the switch but gave me some filters :D break even

Yes, all fine now. Dealer replaced two switches to do with the clutch pedal (under warranty). Starting button and cruise control fixed.

Another annoying symptom which was fixed with this work was the revs lingering after disengaging the clutch. For example: rev to about 5k, drop clutch, revs stay at 5k for a second, change up gear, re-engage clutch, get massive jolt as revs are equalized. It was difficult to explain to the tech and also difficult to replicate when I took him out to demonstrate. It was very frustrating. I thought the problem may have been my driving. In fact, I was all set for getting rid of the car... However, problem all fixed with the new switches and I got to keep my car :-)

Exactly what I had. The Audi assist guy recognised the problem when I took him out in it, and booked it in at the Dealer there and then. When I had phoned the dealer prior to Audi assit, they sounded in comple bewilderment as I described the problem, and suggested I called Audi assist. Traced to faulty clutch switch, whcih was replaced, and normal service resumed....

it really impacted my fuel economy, the engine did not respond 'off clutch' properly, revs held, sometimes rose, then dropped slowly...

the car was difficult to drive also, very jerky, hard to rev match...

if you have any ???'s once you get the part let me know

cheers arthur, i defo have the same problem. went out in it earlier to use the cruise control for the first time and you guessed it, it did not work..on the revs front it is hard for me to compare as the car has been like it since i had it,so seems the norm to me..i phoned audi parts today they have one in stock and i will pick it up in the morning..i am presuming this faulty clutch switch is located under the drivers footwell at high level ??

under the footwell
3 screws, 2 visable under the bottom, one in the fuse panel
just drop it
the switch is the upper one (clutch released or out)
left switch, white (blue is for the brake)
release connector
then push and twist CW, switch should come right out
the reverse to install...
you may need to press the clutch a bit to get it in...
also for clearance unclip the OBC port and footwell lighting, simple
you'll see what I mean when you drop the panel

you will not believe the difference...

just took it out this afternoon, feels a different animal...less aggressive and jerky on gear change.. will take a bit of getting used to, as said previous been like that for 2 years so new no different... luckily i dont keep tabs on mpg, but it obviously will be more economical.....cheers again arthur :beerchug:
