5w40 seems to be more popular in USA probably due to the higher summer temps , i would be happy with 5w40 too as 40 is the viscosity @ 100 deg c so after a beating , it will have better pressure at idle theoretically
Phantom black saloon ,PES M112 Supercharged 520ps/595nm K&N filter, 100 cell milltek cats, res valved milltek system. 8 and 10mm H&R spacers.H&R roll bars, "smoke chrome " alloy refurb. JHM Quickshifter, Bilstein B16 coilovers , uprated diff mount ,50/50 devils own WM kit so 1.4 litres/min in intake approx 10% more power and torque
1/4 mile 12.01 secs 123.5mph

After the cr*p service I had at Southampton Audi they haven't seen my car for over 5 years...

Good Audi dealers do exist, but based on what RS4 owners have said on here over the last 10 years they are few are far between.

I've had my 4 at Tyneside audi once and they were spot on. Over in the R8 section, I put a thread up asking if it was worth keeping up audi service history on my R8 or go for a specialist and everyone recommended keeping up with Audi service history. I just figured people avoided the dealers for the excessive cost.

As I said above, cr*p service was the issue not cost - that an indie (who looks after my RS4 much better) is also cheaper is a bonus not the reason for using them.

Fair do's mate, I don't suppose it really matters does it? If resale is an issue, the kind of potential buyer is likely to be well aware of indies and the reason people use them on cars like these. I've not really had reason not to use my local dealer. My R8 is due a service very soon so fingers crossed. In all fairness as well, I was happy with what they've quoted me for the work.

I've had my RS4 from new in July 2006 and have no thoughts of selling until it's a pile of rust(!) :smile_smoking: , so resale value isn't a consideration for me.

Thanks for your replies/opinions.

I have decided to go with Fuchs Titan GT1 5W40 XTL fully synthetic oil and have bought 12 litres from Opie for £58 delivered which seems like excellent value to me.

As a result Slough Audi are going to do the Interim Service (aka an oil change) for £133 instead of £349 seeing as I'm supplying the oil. I'm happy with that as it means I'm getting a proper Dealer stamp to maintain my FASH and choosing what oil I prefer.

All I have to do now is see if they're any good; if they are then I'll use them in the future. If they're not then my search for a decent Audi Dealer will continue.....

I'm surprised they are willing to let you supply your own oil. I míght run this by them myself.

I just told them that was what I wanted to do and if they could 'accommodate' me then they would get the work and potentially future work too.

Simple as that !

Hang on, they knocked off over £200 because they're not supplying the oil? That can't be right ?

It wouldn't surprise me if they were charging £15-20 per litre plus VAT.

Yup, standard dealer pricing. It's a joke considering they get it in massive barrels.

The £130ish will just be an hours labour to the the job.

The only saving grace is working for a dealer... Free Oil whenever you need it...
