I didn't realise there was such a big difference in the fuel efficiency. From the article: "On paper, the combined figures are 20.8mpg for the B7 and 26.4mpg for the B8". That's 27% better. Wow. Anyway...

I think the premise in the article that you could have a B7 for pretty much the same as a B8, by comparing an over-priced low mileage B7 to the B8, is flawed. There may well be the odd B7 for sale for £35k, but thats not representative. The B7 in reality is around half the price of a B8, that's hard to ignore.

So, taking the other main points, i.e. legroom and the 'box:

- I do sometimes think a bit more legroom would be handy (especially tonight when I'll be transporting a couple of mates to basketball training). It's not generous in the B7, agreed. But it's enough for my needs, if only just.

- A semi-auto box would indeed be great for town driving. I'm filling that particular gap by buying a £7k Mk5 Golf Gti DSG soon hopefully :D

B7 wins :thumb:

Bams got it spot on, keep it simple. Riv that's a good point but the b7 needs no setting up or fiddling beforehand its just get in and drive.

Well did we all see the collaboration between Audi and Pistonheads in the RS3 videos... Well my money is on Audi asking Pistonheads to write an article to help encourage people to buy up some of the remaining fields, and fields of unused B8 stock. :boohoo:

B7 FTW!

IMO the biggest argument against a B8RS4 is a tuned S4, instead of trying to merely improve on the B7 they should've evolved the 4.2 from NA to FI. A supercharger bolted on for a conservative 480HP / 470ft/lbs would have set that car on fire (hopefully not literally). Look at all of the group tests it showed up to and got spanked. A load-lugger needs torque, m'ladies. C'mon, we'd not be arguing if a B8RS couldn't be tamed by a very mildly tuned S4 on the same platform, it's the only generation this has happened and it's just wrong.

If they'd FI'd the B8RS they certainly wouldn't have been so slack on sales either, I bet even a few of the B7 saloon stalwarts would've jumped platform. Audi tried to cash in on the B7 kudos and it didn't really work but all manufacturers do it, they can empty parts bins and cream profit on a fully R&D engine etc. However, let's face it, stretching an NA powerplant across two RS4 generations in this day and age was always going to be a massive risk. Yes, the B8 is great but the thread title answer is: I'm telling you that you're wrong.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Driven lots of B8 RS4 models, not had a decent drive in a B7, although been around the 'ring with Sonny in his Daytona one (whatever happened to Sonny?). Anyway, it's the B7 for me without a doubt, there's just something so right about them, I doubt the B8 will be remembered as fondly as the B5/7.

B7 is and will be, along with the Quattro and the R8 in the all time Audi hall of fame

The B8. Good car. No more than that

Now let's get his straight, their is a true passion and fondness for the RS4 B7 that the B8 does not have. This is evident in the love shown everywhere I drive. And as for fast a few of you may have seen this:

Audi kindly let me have a B8 for a week the last time they were sorting a few things on my car... God I was so glad to get my b7 back! On the heart (rather than head) side it felt very very ordinary. Missed the manual stick, felt like it had lag on the accelerator. Interior didn't feel like an upgrade over a normal Audi. Handling was sloppy and not as fun. And for the acid test when I walked back to it in a car park, it didn't stand out at all.

I was actually really glad as it properly laid to rest any nagging doubts I had that I should change up. At the same time I felt a bit gutted. The successor to the wonderful b7 should have been better.

Very very wrong.

apart from the steering feel the b8 is better IMO that is, I had my b7 for a long time and can honestly say they are only
Any good once they have had a proper stage 2 done on them by MRC otherwise they are sluggish and too heavy.
The gearbox gets the most out of the v8. Takes a while to get used to it after the b7 mind. I used to think the same as you boys when I had my b7 then I saw the light :bigblink:

And if they did build a B8 RS4 it probably would have looked a lot like this gem.
