If you HPI checked the car it would of shown the number of owners since registration. Not a lot you can do now imo. As said though use it as some leverage to get the knocking sorted. Surely by purchasing it from a dealer it has come with warranty?

Yes I was a bit silly not to HPI, I looked at 6 cars previously and HPI'd all. With this one my gut felt right............. How stupid.

The dealer is now refusing to repair, and will only refund. The fact that the DCR in knocking away is not a problem apparently, i'm just moaning.

I now have to make the choice I guess

1. Return the car for refund.
2. Foot the bill for repair myself and shut up.

I'm gutted as its a sprint blue avant, with very low miles. I want to keep it, but fail to see how I have to foot the bill for repair myself

I own the exact same mileage and colour,I'm the 3rd owner and I've owned it for 6 years so your doing very well there, mine will make an occasional knock on 1 particular road with horrific speed bumps,it's been in years ago and all pressures are good and no weeping of the drc, changed out all front wishbones a year back too, made no difference so I'm happy all is tip top, when drc has gone they knock a lot and this is a whole different game,if the car is a good straight example I would think twice about walking away as it won't be easy to find another in tidy condition.i also got stung on owners at main agent when I bought my b5 rs4 I got no were and pushed hard very hard.the car and overall deal was the best at the time and would of cost me a few k more for next car.I stomached it in the end.Can I ask what you paid for it? Is it a good spec, seats in top condition etc? More for my reference really as a pal who got rid of his b8 is looking at buying another b7 and thought they were appreciating in value compared to when he sold his.Im not sure on that but there certainly very firm.

Surely the dealer has to warranty any car he sells for three months, I thought that this was the industry norm,so if you've only had it three weeks then he has to repair the car, can't see any way he could deny this,if he does, then threaten him with legal action, watchdog, that kind of thing.
When I bought my Tvr a few years ago from a dealer,I had quite a few issues in the first three months,& the dealer couldn't of been more helpful,I live in devon,& the dealer was in Hertfordshire, they even allowed me to get all the repairs done down here at my local indi, then the indie billed them dirdirectly,I didn't even have to open my wallet.
Thats the sort of service we should expect from car dealers.

Talk to Trading Standards both where you live and where the dealer is located.

If you wish to keep the car, it may be worthwhile seeing about how much it will cost you to repair - then speak to the trader again to see if there will be any negotiation before you return the car back to them.

Bear in mind they will have to (probably)repair the car meaning the price will go up on the forecourt, and now has an extra owner - so there should be some room to come up with a compromise.

Personally this is what I would do, after getting the car checked over by a specialist, to see if there is anything else amiss.

Was there any aftermarket warranty with the car along with the sale?

Trading standards will not be interested if a full refund has been offered - the dealer is under no obligation to repair if a refund has been put forward as per consumer rights under sales of good act.

Thanks for the replies.

The car is in great condition, other than the knocking. I could not live with the knocking how it is. Its very apparent for the fist 10 minutes of driving every day, and then COMPLETELY STOPS. Like others have said 3 owners isn't bad, its just on top of other issues with the dealer.

The car is currently booked to go in Audi Stafford for investigation Tuesday, however the dealer is currently refusing to pay anything towards it, as "he can sell the car for more", and "i never stop moaning" So from his point of view he has covered himself by refusing to repair, and offering a refund.

I'm not sure if he is bluffing, so as it stands at the minute, I have emailed to say that the car will be returned tomorrow morning for refund, and outlined all the costs i've incurred due to ownership. My heart does not want to take the car back, but my head wont allow me to pay for a repair that was present on the car before purchase.

He will not incur the cost of repair before resale, as he will not repair the car. He refuses to accept there is a fault. Not having a great day trying to work out what to do.

At least if I take the car in to Audi for a health check before returning it, I will have a full documented list of issues. This may help future buyer.

Incidentally they have never removed the car from sale, and I've owned it over 3 weeks. I never really kicked of with them till this weekend, almost as if they knew what was coming

Sounds like he will try and mug someone else off with it and not tell them about the fault. Doesn't he have to disclose of any fault to any potential sellers by law? Sounds like he aleady knew and didn't tell you and he is going to try it on someone else now. If you give it back then tell us all who the trader is and which car it is as most people looking to buy one will be looking through here first.

And as annoying as it may be, if you really want to keep the car and the estimate to repair is not room inch then you might have to just bite the bullet and pay for the repair out of your own pocket. Of course, try and get the morey off him first by any other means but if that is no joy and you want to keep it then you can.

I dont want to name and shame yet, until I get the outcome. However there aren't many sprint blue avants with low milage for sale at the minute

I may be new to the forum, but as a previous owner of a V6 Clio, I fully understand how important forums are like this are, so at the minute I am still intending for the car to attend Audi tuesday morning for a health check. It maybe a waste of £95 to me, as the dealer will not sort the issues. However I can prove what is wrong with the car, to protect other forum users from this seller.

The wife has rang our credit card issuer (as we paid £500 deposit this way). She had lodged a complaint. They have advised that we keep hold of the car for the time being, pending investigation.

Time for sunday lunch now, a few beers, and try and forget things for a few hours

Agreed, if the dealer is non compliant then walk away and get a refund.

I would absolutely return that, just go find another one with sorted suspension. Buying from a dealer should come with at least 6 months warranty, and that's on top of them sorting existing issues without fuss.

If that's it I would take it back, seems expensive without buckets and FBSW in my opinion.

Even though the advert says buckets it does not look like it!! Then again maybe you never wanted the above items.

Good luck whatever you decide mate :yellowrs4:

Thats a tough call as if it is the car linked from piston heads then it looks a stunning example. If audi finds issues with it then i,d take the report to him and see what he offers then. Good luck wth whatever you decide.
