My first Audi
Re: My first Audi
Some say that if you have a JCWeldFab exhaust, you can go all night......
And that a JHM one gives you an extra inch?
That Avant is lovely, Misano looks really nice when it is that clean.
I was also not really taken by the red when I saw my car on autotrader and only went to see it because it was the closest one to me. The silver interior also looked crap in the pictures but once I saw the car in the metal and dead cow I was sold.
Went back and bought it the following day.
Without doubt the best thing I have ever bought, it is a keeper.

I'm afraid that is true. Every second, of every night. Noisy too...coffey555 wrote:Some say that if you have a JCWeldFab exhaust, you can go all night......
coffey555 you are misinformed. it's actually only 0.25"...coffey555 wrote:And that a JHM one gives you an extra inch?

I concur. It looks stunning...coffey555 wrote:That Avant is lovely, Misano looks really nice when it is that clean.

Re: My first Audi
Well that is what I tell the ladies and nobody has ever asked where the extra 0.75 is........
That car sits a little lower than my one, which fills the arches nicely. Might mess about with my ride height next trip home.
Noisy you say? The people next door must love you!

I am starting to think the same after spending £380 quid on some rears lol.
Gave it a clean and a polish today not sure why it did not need it. Looking forward to the stage 2.
Out of question did you have it rollered since doing the coilovers? did you have any clearance issues?

You don't see many Misano Avants and that looks the nuts.

Looking forward to gearing how the mrc remap compares to the AMD.Regy53 wrote:Ginors4 wrote:Looks horrible.

It has been on the dyno twice at AMD on the Kw's with no issues.

Re: My first Audi
Saw this at the AMD rolling road meet and it looked lovely back then. I'm sure Gino has lavished it with more care and attention since then, so congratulations on getting a tidy example. Enjoy it

Re: My first Audi
Well guys
A bit of a mixed day but I am chuffed at the result in the end.
Now I can only compare what I had before to what I have now.
When I bought this car from Gino it felt quick but somehow I did think it was lacking. Looking at the work he had done it seemed strange as it should be doing decent numbers. The car was quick, it was very quick but I just felt it was missing a little something. The rolling road graphs from AMD showed very little torque 296lb/ft with 435bhp, this was after a carbon clean and a remap. Great but the torque was down. perhaps a mis reading roller.
Looking for this torque I booked the car in with local company MRC for a precat removal and stage two.
Today I took the car there and they rollered it for a health check. Remembering this is 6 months after a de coke and reported 435 bhp. She achieved 383Ps and 424nm torques. The timing was retarded 13 degrees which was maximum the ECU would do, other readings on the ECU were not great.
Doug was a bit miffed as after telling him it had a carbon clean he could only put it down to faulty flaps or carbon. One of the sensors inside the V was bolted on the outside where AMD had forgot to put it back but that seemed ok.
He requested to put the car back to stock to see what it did as the map was making the timing <beep> so much. So he put the AMD Map back to stock and gained BHP and Torque!
There was no point in doing a remap on a car not making the numbers. I was left with go home and feel sorry for myself or Doug suggested removing the manifold seeing how bad if at all the valves were and checking the flaps to see if there is any sticking etc. This was about 4 hours labor and a fair bill but it was worth doing.
The car had covered 5k since the decoke and this was the state of the valves

Not to bad but bad enough, also there was a lot of acidic type product in the middle of the V that had burnt and become like a crisp, it was like a product that had been used to clean the valves before had spilt and not been cleaned up.
So the flaps were removed. Doug did a great job cleaning the valves and stuck back on the rollers where she made 410bhp. Doug was happy that she had her mojo back. Next we discussed further options and I opted for a stage 2 remap.
After a hour Doug came and got me, the ECU readings were so much better, maximum <beep> was 1.5 degrees, the advance timing was over 10% up from when I came in and the car had gained great amounts.
429.3PS, 477nm. VS 383PS and 424nm when I got there.
There is over 80nm torque more at 3000 revs.
Ok, not getting carried away it was quick before but lacking, it now has everything I thought it would be, the car has been transformed in ways that it is hard to explain, that crispness of it being ontop of its game compared to what I had is very good, plus the difference in the mapping on throttle seems huge.
Big thanks to the guys at MRC. The bill was a reasonable amount but not to bad considering the work I had done and how ad hoc / custom it was. The pre cats were not removed so I still have a bit to play with.
Thanks MRC
quick pic, bottom two is what I had before, third line is stock map, 4th line is after decoke 5th line is after remap, but check out the torque difference low down. One of the what I had runs was done in third
quite chuffed tbh
